Governor Lee Has Admirers Though Governor J. Bracken Lee has been lauded by some and lampooned by others for his administrative policies as head executive of Utah, he has ardent admirers throughout the United States. One in particular, now living Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, suggests Lee as presidential timber. Editors of the Evening News in Harrisburg sent the November 30 issue of their to the Box Elder ! taper is a letter to their editor that was in that issue of the paper concerning Lee: . Dear Mr. Editor: I noted with a great deal of interest the article by Robert C. Ruark, in Fridays News, regarding Governor J. Bracken Lee of Utah, I am not surprised Va rare political bird. that Lee has stepped on a lot of political toes in Utah because if things are not as Brack Lee thinks they should be, he is not one to pull his punches. I had the privilege a year or two ago of , working with J. Bracken Lee on a community project in Price, Utah, Governor Lees home town. He was Brack to everyone. He had been Mayor of Brice for a number of terms. Under his administration Price became one of the few cities in the United States where they have no city tax. Under Lees direction the city bought electricity from the Utah Power and Light Company, sold it to the citizens of Price at the lowest rate ever paid, and still had sufficient profit to pay all city expenses. During his term as Mayor many new improvements appeared in the City, such as a new municipal building and auditorium, a new city park with modern swimming pool, street lighting and a hospital. Governor Lee does not need any defense. He is thoroughly capable of taking care of in himself as the politicians and Utah have found out. In 1944 he ran for , Lee is a Republican. Governor and was defeated by a few hundred votes, and a Democratic judge refused him a recount. It was common talk in Utah that Lee had been cheated out of the governorship. He ran again in 1948 and was elected by a large majority. The only Republican elected ill Utah in a Democratic landslide. Governor Lee is a sportsman, a fisherman and hunter. Trout fishing and hunting is tops in the mountains of Utah. Brack Lee !s an mans man. The kind of man one would want for a personal friend. Governor Lee is absolutely fearless and honest to a fault. He has no purpose other than the good of Utah. I believe he is appreciated by the rank and file of Utah citizens if not by many of the politicians both of his own party and outside of it. J. Bracken Lee is presidential timber and if the Republican party wants honest inspired leadership, they could not do better than nominate J. Bracken Lee for President of the United States. Governor Lee has little concern for his own political future. He is interested in the people of America and particularly the citizens of Utah. Their welfare and happiness and the soundness of their economy is his chief and only concern. America needs more statesmen like Governor J. Bracken Lee of Utah. M. D. In windows and on front doors of homes all over America, the bright red and green holly will signify the joyous festivities of the holiday season. For Christmas time should be a time of happiness. Every family looks forward to the joy and celebration that the holiday period should bring. But every year thousands of families in our country see Christmas joy turned into suffering and tragedy because of needless and preventable accidents. The national safety council points out that hundreds of persons are killed and thousands more injured by accidents during the Christmas-Nethe Years holiday season years peak accident period. The number one killer is traffic, and its death toll on Christmas day is two or three times the annual daily average. To keep death from taking your holiday or the holiday of your loved ones is a simple thing. It costs nothing, takes no time and requires only a little effort. It only means being aware of the extra holiday hazards and of the extra caution, common sense and courtesy needed to overcome them. Refuse to drink if you are driving. Wait for the light to change.
