Show Funeral at Mendon. Mrs. Mary Shelton, One of the Early Pioneers, Laid to Rest. The funcial service over the remains of Mary Wann-Shclton, whose death was mentioned in our last Issue, was held in Mendon Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock. The lady was one of the earlier settlers In Cache county, having come hero In 1805, and In that time had made a host of friends, many of who were present to pay thulr respects. re-spects. Mis. Shelton was a Latter-day Saint and the service was in charge of Bishop M. I). Hlrtl. Thete were eight speakers as follows: Andrew Anderson, Ander-son, Wm. Cunningham, Isaac Soren- son, Alfred Gardner, Low, Andtevv Sotcnson, Rev. N. E. Clcm-enson. Clcm-enson. All spoke icmlntsccntlv and extolcd the virtues of tho deceased. Mrs. Shelton was bout In North-shields, North-shields, Eng., June 10, 18.11 and came to the United States In 1M3, settling In Philadelphia, where she with her husband, John Shelton, (whom she had mauled before leaving England) tcsided eight years. In 1802 the family fam-ily camo to Utah, settling at Cottonwood. Cotton-wood. ln'.." they came to Mendon and both resided there until their death. Mi's. Shelton was the mother of ten children, seven girls and three bovs, as follows: Mrs. Jane W. George, Mis. Elizabeth Geoigc, Mrs. Eleanor A. Larson, Mis. Mary W.Luther, Mrs. It hod a A. Hansen, Mrs. Isabel Haider, Mrs. Christlanla A. Rhodes, John It., Joseph R., and Ephtalm P. Shelton. Thcieare85 grandchlldien and 15 great grand children. Mrs. Shelton was possessed of considerable con-siderable property which she disposed of by will, the girls getting the money and the boys the lands. |
