O K Baseball l r Club and the members are Misses f Knowlton and Toronto Denn 3 Evans Telford Allen Willy and w r. r The girls wisely extended an invitation invitation t tion to the gentlemen to visit the Edina on Monday last The Art Gallery was well filled with members and visitors to listen to the excellent program It consisted consisted consisted con con- of a piano selection by Miss Lyle Young paper paper on Charles Dickens Miss Whipple recitation Miss Bowman Bow Bow- man essay II The Young Men of Today Today- Miss Badger vocal selection Miss Price The meeting was a success and was an indication that the Edina Society is growing It was once more illustrated by the boys of the Delta Phi that in order to hold a pleasant t and instructive meeting it is not necessary to resort to that laborious preparation of having a aset aset aset set program but all that is necessary is a spirit of enthusiasm and a willingness willing willing- ness to act In spite of the work the boys have to contend with notwithstanding the abSence absence absence ab ab- Sence sence of a quorum and regardless of the non-appearance non of the regular program an enthusiastic little audIe audience ce met on their usual night and carried out a rousing rousing rousing rous rous- ing extemporaneous program consisting of a debate as to the attitude the administration administration administration ad ad- ministration should assume towards the Hawaiian Islands song by Mr Nelson and Mr Driggs and a mas masterly erly address by the President It can be said with truth that the participators of that meeting have recorded in their hearts another pleasant memory of their college days Prof Whiting delivered one of his interesting lectures before the Zeta Gamma Gamma- on Thursday evening His subject II The Ice Age was presented in a manner such as to give rise to much reflection among the listeners He not only brought forth many good proofs of the existence of an ice age but advanced several astronomical theories to account for the exis tance of ice periods The Professor gave little credence to any advanced the theory except one lately by Irish astronomer Mr Ball This theory founded on mathematical proof accounts for ice periods under the sup- sup supposition of irregular of the earths earth's orbit connected with the relatIve relative relative rela rela- tive amounts of heat the earth receives during summer and winter After the Professor had finished his lecture proper he he gave members the privilege of asKing asK asK- aSKing ing questions of which m many ny were brought up and discussed Last Saturday by invitation and organization organization organization or or- of some of our leading students students students stu stu- dents a party of about thirty went to spend the day up City Creek Canyon The party assembled at the mouth of the canyon and shortly after nine o'clock the merry crowd was on their way The walk continued until nearly noon when a camp was decided upon some four miles from the city All having developed appetites of at least three dimensions dinner was soon soon spread There were sandwich contests contests contests con con- tests doughnut contests tart contests but the coffee contests won the day It was claimed that some drank ten cups of coffee but we are inclined to reduce the number slightly Dinner over a 1 11 1 shifting process began Some took to the hillsides to gather flowers some sought shady nooks for social discussion discussion discussion discus discus- c sion some played cards and some went as far as snow line and as proof that l f they did so when they returned a hand- hand to-hand to snowball fight ensued By past half-past four all had again ask assembled assembled as as- k sem bled at camp Games were indulged in n for a short time then supper pre P pared As the sun was sinking behind I the western hills the happy party began the homeward march There were no 1 a accidents unless it was was' was to the kodak fT |
