Property controlled by the Amico Mining Corporation comprises approximately 3300 acres near the town of Maimi and includes, along with the former Van Dyke Copper and Sho Me Copper holdings, certain undeveloped adjoining areas contracted to Amico by the Miami Copper Company and Inspiration Consolidated Copper Company. Officers of the new torpora-tio- n are C. E. Weed, president; E. L. Rossin, vice president and R. E. Schneider, secretary-treasure- r. The directors consist of the above officers and W. D. Thornton, R. S. Newlin and M. A. Caine. The Van Dyke Copper Company, recently sold to Anaconda, was first organized in 1916 with the late Cleve W. Van Dyke as president The property, which adjoins both .Miami Copper and Inspiration Copper holdings, 1700 contained approximately acres when first organized. Drilling began in 1916 and by 1921 the company had drilled three holes, two of them the deepest in the district at that time. At the same time, a shaft, which is still in operation, was sunk to a depth of 1692 feet. Upon completion of the shaft, the mine was worked at different intervals with some success, some ore which assayed very high in copper content being shipped to the local smelter. The Sho Me Copper Company property, which lies west of the town of Miami and also adjoins Inspiration Copper .Company holdings, is wholly unexplored and undeveloped except for the ever present early-da- y prospect holes and tunnels. Very little is known of its possibilities. . (Indicates operating companies. Bales SATURDAY, APRIL i 26, 1947 INDUSTRIAL Copper Firms Consolidate To Work Mine . During years States, possession, Alaska has Mines. added nearly two billion dollars The panhandle was standing to the national wealth and still on the corner with a hat in each contains vast re. unexploited sources, according to the report which was prepared by H. Foster Bain, former director and now a consulting engineer of the bureau of mines. In the prewar years,' the territorial fisheries were yielding about $60,000,000,000 annually to the national income, the mining industries about $24,000,000 a year, mostly from gold, and the fur trade. about $2,250,000, the survey shows. Since the. purchase of the territory by the United States from' Russia in 1867, fur trapping and fishing have contributed about one billion dollars and the mineral interests slightly under a billion dollars. ' Alaska has been pioneered by the fur trappers, fishing industries, and miners, and the future development of the territory will call for some of the same hardy spirit of the American pioneers that pushed the boundaries of the United. States westward in the face of 'many difficulties, Bain predicted.. Alaska is. truly. a large and attractive country with many undeveloped resources, but the number of bonanzas anywhere in the world is small and much hard work on small or moderate sized deposits will be necessary to develop the wealth of the territory, the bureau report said. . hand.
