Adams, will make her jow to Washington society this etson. Her dad is chairman of the !ipuljran National Commutes. (Reprinted from Salt Lake Tribune.) According to preliminary estimates by the American Gas association, sales of manufactured gas during 1923 by the public utilities companies of the United States will run between 365,000,000,000 and 375,000,000,000 cubic feet. This establishes a new high record for gas consumption and represents an estimated increase over 1922 of about 20,000,000,000 cubic feet. At the present time, the association reports, new customers are being added to service mains at a rate in of 400,000 a year, witli annual sales of appliances aggregating 750,000 ranges, 425,000 water heaters and 400,000 space heaters. Sales of merchandise by gas companies is also continuing at a high rale, the estimate for last year being in the neighborhood of 15,000,000, or approximately $5 a meter. One of the principal factors responsible for the greatly increased sales of gas is the growing demand for the product in industry, where, according to the association, gas is now used in more than 5000 separate and distinct ways, with an increased consumption during the last ten years of 1000 per cent. Companies are also making installations at the rate of about 10,000 a year, and ire some sections of the country aiv making a large number of gas refrigera- tion machine installations. In order to keep up with present! and accumulated demands lor service the gas utilities financed a $150,000,000 building and expansion program in 1923, the association says, and this sum is expected to be materially increased in 1921. Reports filed with the associa tion by its members show that the industry is enjoying the greatest expansion in its history, with the new year prom ising no p in demands lor service. ex-c- Neck ss NORMAN ANGKI.L KITS ISLAM) NEAR ENGLAND i .
