After having to stay home for six frustrating years, American Fork finally earned the right to play in this week's state 5A softball tournament. The win came in the aftermath after-math of getting shut out 2-0 on the Timberwolves' Orem diamond the day before. American Fork coach Duke Sorensen said, "Annie Christensen Chris-tensen pitched a good game. She did everything that she had to do to get us the win." . Christensen said, "I think we had a lot more concentration concentra-tion this time. Last year was a learning experience (when the Cavemen lost their play-in play-in game). We came from it a more seasoned team. We knew we could beat Timpanogos. "We may have some pre-state pre-state tournament jitters. We can do well though. We lost our first two games at St. George, but we played a lot of tight games the next day and won them all." Sorensen said, "Unlike last year, the girls knew what to do. They were determined that when they went into this game, they weren't going to give up. "Our sophomore coach, Lindsey Phelps, was a ninth-grader ninth-grader on varsity the last time AF went to state. She'll be going with us to Fremont this Tuesday for our first-round game there." One of the ironies of this year's play-in game was that the Timberwolves were coached by Nikki Anderson Tanner, the same head coach who mentored the Cavemen in See REWIND, Page 7 i I j I u S.- ! ,.'
