Show REPORT OF OP THE GRAND JURY to the honorable P jr emerson einerson judge of the first judicial district of the territory of utah sin wethe undersigned undersigner under signed grand jurors respectfully beg to submit i t to your honor the following report after disposing of the calendar we have visited the public buildings 98 and examined record of public officers the CITY PRISON AND CELLS we find arc are in a suitable condition for the health comfort and safety of the prisoners wo we have carefully examined the records of ogden city and find that they are tire pro properly erly and carefully kept the actors auditors books show a wise wise and judicial jud acial expenditure of the public moneys the CITY RECORDER sp spared ared no pains in in extending ever every y courtesy in hia his power to aid ua us in our researches and much credit is due him for the tile scholarly businesslike manner in which the books book sare arc ke kent L I ave we would call attention io n to the condition of a DANGEROUS WATER SECT running through the tile central school house grounds and would recommend its being protected by a prop er fence as it is is sufficiently deep to endanger the lives of email small children ch ilIre 11 who play on oil its margin we would call special attention to the negligence of HEALTH OFFICERS in not enforcing the sanitary laws our attention being called to the close proximity of out houses to business houses and residences in the central part of the city also pools of stagnant water which send forth a sickening stench and ais as the hot lot season approaches unless strict measures are enforced the seeds of disease and death will be spread broadcast among the inhabitants of this beautiful and rind central city on inspection of COURT HOUSE CELLS we consider it important to put a it permanent iron door at the bottom of the stair leading to fo the cells the same to swing into the passage and for the health of prisoners there should be a stove and fuel provided and placed into the passage way A drainage should be made for a well to supply the colls cells with water they should be thoroughly whitewashed we su suggest gest that an inner inner brating grating be placed place crosswise crosswise ill in the cc cells q and ild a gla glass ss window between the two gratings we also notice a great amount of filth which should be removed THE HOOP ROOF OF THE COURT HOUSE appears to need a thorough overhauling from dome to water con ductor to ascertain where there arc are leakages and stop the same came and finish the whole with a good coat of paint the rooms of the court house proper pro per we find in good condition and well preserved we call special attention to a filthy rivy privy in the northeast comer of the t c court ground grou rid and suggest that measures be enforced for its removal we have also examined the books of the county assessor and collector and recorder and find them well kept both officers offic i ers extended every ever y courtesy courtay to the tile committee in their researches es respectfully submitted S S Sch am rani foreman grand jury it A wells abo abe kuhn jay R crandall john E Ell bAd david H stephens william I II 11 wright isidore marks geor george e IN W larkin alma mathews alfred ward chas C shaw rasmus jus J us tc tesca cn barney stevens |
