Show J JANTS MORAL SU SUPPORT PORT to Last Monday at the regular Monthly Month Month- Jy ly y meeting of the County Commissioners Commission ers em In fn Parowan Mr Joseph Foster George orie Foster and Dan E. E Matheson met with them to discuss in a measure measure measure meas meas- ure at ea far as a. possible the question of rural roads and the authority if any such auch be held beld by the said Commissioners Commission era ers ai as to compelling the right of way through any specified section of land landor or property owned by any individual for the benefit of public traffic The primary object being to get some move to establish a precedent for the future in that it will not be long till there will be a dem demand nd for roads through all the rural districts as there must be some provision llon for the transportation tran n of the the coming population population population tion of school hool children One of the outstanding features of the session was the discussion of getting a few individuals t to loosen up enough to give a rod and a half of ground that is now of no value whatever and only produces noxious weeds and brush for the purpose of having a road whereby the adjacent farmers may be able to reach the main aln arteries arteries' of traffic to and from town to carry on their business Particularly I is this the case in the neighborhood of the Foster Bros Brol farms where one of the first and al al- also so the oldest roads in all the valley Is located and has bas been in use ever since Ince the first settlers came in to this section but through the greed and sightedness short of certain in individuals individuals individuals in- in has bas been gradually crowded aside aide and fenced here and there until until un until un- un til now it is well nigh impossible to get along anywhere within from a half to two miles of the point of des des- Again in iri some Bome places there has been left but a scant rod or at most a rod and a half for the passing vehicles This is impossible to do donY any nY grading in and as a result it is a decided hardship to get either in to toor toor toor or out of some of the farms without a long detour wasting both time and material in doing so Another prominent feature discussed discuss discuss- ed was the opening up of the Mid Mid- Midvalley Midvalley valley highway from the eastern edge of William Grimshaw's land up over a gravelly bench for three three- fourths of a mile to connect either with the Enoch loop mail route or orto orto orto to go on east and connect with the Zion Park Highway As it is is at present present pres pres- I ent every vehicle or outfit that desires de sires to cross the valley to toward Iron Springs or to reach any point west must either go by way of Cedar City six miles south or go round by way of Enoch and up through private te property which in any wet season is virtually impossible for cars at all nil then south Bouth for nearly three fourths of a mile and then turn west The question of financing this project was gone over but the people of Midvalley Mid Mid- valley were not asking for one cent of expenditure of the County funds but merely the moral support of the County Officials and that said moral l support had very little weight with anyone if it was given by the said Raid officials sitting supinely b by and never neer even taking a look into the situation So it was motioned that a committee be appointed to look over the ground in company with some of the residents residents resi resi- dents and get a first hand idea of the whole question |
