W R. R Palmer who told us that the L. L D. D S S. S S. S Church had spent in the neighborhood neighborhood neighborhood neighbor neighbor- hood of to secure lecure the grounds and buildings no now being used by the Indians the idea being to give them theman an incentive to make their own living living living liv liv- ing and to develop a greater degree of cleanliness and aptitude for proper prop er living Inspection of ot every everyone one of the eight residences showed conclusively that the Indians have received an incentive incentive incentive tive to ta cleanliness at least for every home hornet t was eras clean dean and the interior ar- ar were surprisingly near that of the average home of the white people True it is the Indians do not have as much furniture or equipment but the idea of cleanliness and arran arrangement arrangement arrange arrange- e ement ment was shown to be very ed And not only the interior of the homes showed intelligent endeavor but the grounds surrounding them also gave evidence of determination to be like the white people Squaws were found planting rose rosebushes rosebushes rosebushes bushes and other plants planta while lawns had been raked clean dean of all rubbish and the same burned or otherwise destroyed The berry bushes had been trimmed irrigation ditches cleaned flower plots nicely arranged and the yards adjoining the homes swept clean of all rubbish The male Indians are now sow cleaning clean olean ing off oft a tract of land which will be used for sport exercises and they are in preparing it The Tho farm land is also receiving at attention attention attention at- at and Irrigation ditches being cleaned preparatory to the watering of the land Several of the squaws were asked if they liked their new quarters better better bet bet- ter than the old and the reply from each was to the effect that the ne new were much better than the old They like the location better and the houses purchased for them gives gives' a great deal of pleasure Mr Palmer says that it is the intention in intention in- in of the church to make the Indians supporting self and efforts efforts' along that line are being constantly put forward |
