Show SELF THROUGH HEAD NIELSON despondent FINANCIAL COMMITS SUICIDE AT REMOTE CAMP despondent over financial reverses and family difficulties chris Nl elson shot himself through the head at his camp in ploy canyon 15 miles west of green river saturday morning killing himself almost instantly he left a note addressed to his wife in which he stated that constant worry had caused him to lose his mind Nl elsons body was brought to moab and later relatives from hunting huntington ton claimed it taking the remains to that place for burial sunday the tragedy occurred about 8 30 saturday morning at the camp in ploy canyon six and one half miles north of floy station on the D R W railroad with the at the camp prior to the suicide were J A brown and son lee brown both of moab the elder brown hadan tended coming to moab saturday morning but asked him to herd the sheep that day as he alel son wanted to wash some clothes mr brown consented to do so and left with the sheep early in the morning and the boy went out to wrangle he horses when the young man was returning to camp and had reached a point about two hundred yards distant he heard a shot riding up to the camp he found lying on the ground in his death throes the body being about 25 yards from the tent the boy notified his father and then rode to floy where he dispatched a note to sheriff J B the sheriff received the news about noon and soon after left for the scene of the tragedy accompanied by coroner C L christensen county attorney C S county physician I 1 W alien lester taylor and L L taylor they reached the scene at 2 30 and found that the body of had not been touched A 2520 caliber rifle was lying on the body with the stock tucked in the cuff of the arans overalls the ball had entered the center of the forehead and penetrated the brain an empty cartridge was found in the chamber of the gun nielson had put on clean clothes before taking his life and had removed his shoes A note was found lying on bis bed addressed to melva his wife in the note he stated that he had lost his sheep and all his money and that he was losing his mind through worry he left instructions to notify a price bank which holds a mortgage on the sheep wrapped up in a piece of paper and attached to the letter was a five dollar bill the note left by mr nielson follows melva I 1 have nothing more to live for the sheep gone and I 1 lost my mind over worry of my mistakes chris nielson cannot herd the sheep in their condition and I 1 have lost money for the girls that had trusted me have not herd from my wife for four months and not able to help her notify bank to get sheep what is left dont know where to go with sheep to save them no hope left As the killing was obviously suicidal sui cial no formal inquest was held by the officers the body was brought to moab by sheriff and relatives in huntington were notified A brother came to moab sunday tor the body mr had ranged sheep in grand county for a number of years some time ago he and wife purchased a home here and it Is understood they still own the property the whereabouts of mrs Is not known in the note which the suicide left be stated that he had not heard from his wife for four months mr nielson has a number of daughters by a former marriage two of whom it Is stated reside at grand junction he owned about sheep and was ranging them with a like number owned by J A brown |
