D Roosevelt Roosevelt Roosevelt Roose Roose- velt again showed shoved his aptitude for discerning g the feeling and wishes of the people and his ability to fall in step with these wishes in just the right man man- ner nero His proposed plan for furniS furnishing h. h Ing VOl work k f for or tl the Ie unemployed unemployed unemployed un un- un- un employed u undoubtedly fits into the ide ideas s which ha have haye e been forming in the minds of those interested inthe in inthe In Inthe the matter for the past several months Our own o columns suggested just such a plan not many weeks ago From the president then comes the complete plan garnered part here part there and given to to congress congress congress con con- gress in the form of a a. a broad general outline to which they may work vork in enacting their legislation with the decisive statement that The federal government government government gov gov- must and shall quit this business of relief For the Uintah basin this new V plan of relief carries carries carries car car- ries much of encouragement It should be highly beneficial to us i in two ways Like the rest of the country we ve as taxpayers will ll be glad to see an end of the doling out of money which we ve must later cov coy coyer cover cover er in in taxes and w-e w will vill be glad to see an end to th the sapping of self-respect self and c self-reliance self from our citizens who vho are forced onto the relief rolls When there is sufficient work vork for all those who vho can and will vill work and those who by their own volition always always al al- a- a ways will vill be unemployed are cut off from the public pub nub lic lie payroll the taxpayers will vill a at t least feel that the extra expenditures are getting them somewhere Of greater importance to the Uintah Basin however however how how- ever is the work to be done under t this is program Rural housing rural electrification reforestation of watersheds an intensified program to prevent soil erosion and to reclaim blighted areas improving existing existing ex ex- ex- ex road systems and con constructing national highways highways high high- ways the extension and enlargement of the successful success success- success success-I ful work vork of the Civilian Conservation Corps and I self-liquidating self non-federal non projects were vere mentioned mention mention- ed in the presidents president's and all message promise great improvements for the Uintah Basin The last mentioned self-liquidation self non-federal non projects is so broad as to cover all manner of irrigation irrigation irrigation gation projects rehabilitation and kindred subjects We have just recently seen the or organization g of the Basin Planning League and with the above outline outline out out- line given to congress and foregone conclusion that much of it will viII be enacted into law by the present congress this organization i is s given unlimited opportunities opportunities op op- op- op to not only do some e planning for fora a better better bet bet- ter basin but to see actual results No better timing could have been arranged So often moves of this kind are started but soon die o out t for lack of enthusiasm or discouraging results The I he Basin Planning League is is new v h however and consequently full of enthusiasm it i is s headed and directed by able men congress will vill undoubtedly be soon providing Priding the funds for the work york we ve so badly n need ed The iron iron is hot the workmen are at hand and the tools are the ready ideal time t to o STRIKE THE POSTMASTER PLUM IS RIPENING Eyes are being turned toward t the he p P in the Duchesne post office of one the political a plums soon to be picked First to publicly announce his candidacy is is the incumbent in in- postmaster Wm gym H H.
