Show The PARSON Page 2 March Sign Up Now. Mehn Spring Intramurals Soon ,)Vestrninster College has not had a newspaper ,.which'..haslastedput the year since the early 1950s. Nevervin sthe history of the school has a newspaper matched I) the number of pages, 2) the number of of money collected in advertis'.editions Seth's-amounthe consistency of publication, or 5) the efficient, ing, use of available funds which the Parson Staff has achieved this year. Not in over ten years has there been a newspaper which vaguely approached this years Parson for reliability and consistency. This is fact. ncr'xv last' years Spring Retreat, the Parson submitted fa. budget', of : three thousand dollars. The S.G.A.C. apJ proved this request. It was estimated that approximately five hundred dollars could be collected in advertising. 'The- - Parson budget was therefore cut to twenty five hundred dollars, with the understanding that the Parson would recoup this cut through advertis- ing. Through a mutual misunderstanding somewhere along the line, this money did not revert to the Parson account. As I have indicated, there was very little reason ftb. assume; tfeat. this money would be needed. In an effort to. save .the paper from an economic demise, the administration submitted a plan to subsidize the rapidly dwindling Parson allotment. Anything collected in advertising up to two hundred and fifty dollars would be matched by the administration. Fair enough. What it boils down to is printing more advertising so that we can earn enough money to print a newspaper. This is a two page edition because 1) we must conserve our funds .for issue, and 2) we have contracted obligations to our advertisers. It is not a case of running out of gas but rather one of not being able to afford gas. IN SHORT WE TOOK GAS. The Parson .staff feels therefore that 1) The Parson budget should be proportional to student enrollment 2) money collected for ads should revert to the Parson treasury, and 3) there should be more economic incentive of the type mentioned given to the Parson business department in future years. We feel hopefully . that if these things are done, the quality of the Parson will soon match its voluminous quantity. Gerald Bowden t ' the-electio- i i to to i THE PARSON REVISITED ! What a tough life one of those birdies has! Id hate to be in his feathers, wouldnt you? But, I sure do enjoy being on the other end of that racket. Badminton is an exciting game, and Im sure youd find it enjoying to meander over to the gym some afternoon to watch the intramural matches, or even play a bit. Heres the way things' stack up in the mens division as of March 16: In the fourth round, Jim Morris is slated to play either Tuck Hubbard, Lannie Peterson, or Ray Clark, and Doug Mead to play either Stan Jones or Ken McCormick. In the womens division, fourth round, Nancy Rose will play either Phyllis Peterson or Margaret Warren. Mixed doubles play is coming along slowly, so no definite standings are available. Taking a look at the class participation in this event, juniors are way out in front with all three left in the womens division and four in the mens division being juniors: Nancy Rose and Jim Morris, last years champs, are still in the running. Although the writer of this article declines to speculate as to the final outcomes of the tournament, he will say that it should be close. Why not come on over and see? .
