This was a very dull campaign. President Johnson never had to worry at all. He assumed the reins of our government on a dark day in November almost one year ago. He was cool and collected, firm and positive. In one short year he guided President Kennedys historic Civil Rights Law, The Tax Cut, and his own War on Poverty bill through a recalcitrant Congress. This was just some of his legislation. LBJs utopian Great Society and responsibility obviously appealed more to Americans than the reckless, right winger Mr. Goldwater. The latter found out that ideas, not name calling, win an election. Line-Up- of the United States to be subjected to a hate campaign for nearly three months. President John Vassiliades and Joe Hollander have many reasons to prove why their club is probably the most active one on the campus. Every since school began the YDs have been busy canvassing every afternoon for the state organization. This work enabled the party to find out where their strengths and weaknesses were. Vice-Presid- ent YD's will not forget that hectic day on October President Johnson visited Salt Lake. The was spent cruising the city and outlying disday tricts encouraging citizens to register for the election. Speakers were installed in cars for this purpose. The YDs concentrated on normally Democratic strongholds. Frosh-Soph- s the next morning for the speech. Yes indeed, this years YD organization is tough! The great success of the partys candidates can ultimately be traced back to such inspirational grass roots campaigning. Democrats and Republicans alike must agree that Westminster is a better college as a result of such tireless efforts as those of the Young Democrats. s Juniors-Senio- Coach Butch Gullace J. YR' s End Hectic Campaigning by Dennis Boyer At the time of this printing the results of the presidential election are yet to come; however, win or lose, we cannot help but have a feeling of great pride in being members of the Young Republicans during this campaign. Even though we have been dubbed the underdogs, it has far from discouraged us in our work. We all have been extremely active in the campaign. An enthusiastic group of Westminster Y.R.s met Senator Goldwater at the Salt Lake airport on October 10th. We also attended his speech at the Tabernacle, and a few of us even went again to the airport to see him off. During past weekends we have distributed approximately fifteen hundred bumper stickers at various ' public centers. Currently a group of us are driving a Goldwater sound-truc- k which some of you might have seen. All in all, everyone has made a generous contribution of their time. For these efforts we have received a letter of appreciation from Senator Goldwater and theRepubli-ca- n National Committee. It is this kind of recognition, combined with our own satisfaction of working for what we believe in, that makes our efforts well worthwhile. . . . . .
