Show HEY I CULLIGAN MAN Dear Culligan Man l I heard some students who were Viet Nam veterans talking about secret armament systems that the government has but does not let the average American know anything about Is this true or are these Vets just putting the rest of us on PUZZLED Dear Puzzled You better believe they are right They have many sophisticated weapons systems that have been in use for many years and still virtually unknown to the man on the street Have you ever heard of the Navys Navy's Green Paint Submarine Anti-Submarine System Probably not Well Vell this top secret system has been in use since 1943 and only recently has be been n declassified I will use this system to illustrate the sophistication which has been achieved by bythe bythe bythe the use of relatively simple materials To implement this system the Navy uses speed high-speed motor boats which carry large tanks of a low density but highly adhesive gre green n paint It is low density so that it will float and spread evenly over the surface of the water and highly adhesive so that it will cling to any object with which it comes in contact When Sonar detects the presence of enemy subs near a convoy or orin orin orin in coastal waters the green paint fleet goes into action Running at full speed of about 50 knots and tracing a criss-corss criss pattern they spread green paint over the surface of the sea When th the enemy sub comes up to periscope depth to prepare to attack or observe this green paint adheres to the periscope lens Aha you say Then the sub Captain cant can't see to attack Well VeIl that's not all there is to the system or it would not have been kept secret for so long When the sub periscope breaks water it is coated with paint in such a way that the Captain thinks he is still under water so he keeps coming up When he gets up to 75 feet above the surface of the sea they shoot him down with anit-aircraft anit fire |
