Show VOLUME XXXIII NUMBER xxooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Slayer of Martin Schwab, Jr., THE SPECIAL SCHOOL Pleading Self Defense, Will ELECTION Have Hearing Next Week order of the board of education of the Nebo school district, a special election will be held on Friday, March 11, at which the taxpayers of the district will decide whether or not the schools shall finish the term of the school year or close on March 12. .The question is one of the most vital that has come nesses For the 11 before the people in many years and it is the duty of every taxpayer to vote on the question. If the people refuse by their votes to authorize the board of education to renew the indebtedness of the Nebo district, to the extent of about $70,000, the schools must dose and 5,000 children will be denied an inherent right more valuable than any other inheritance. It will mean that every one of the 5,000 children in the district will be forced to lose a year of their lives, because the work which they have done thus far in the school year must all be done over agein, beginning with the fall term. This would be the crime of parents on their sons and daughters which never could be forgiven. The argument has been advanced by those who are opposed to renewing the indebtedness, that to authorize the board of education to renew the indebtedness would result in an 'increase in the rate of taxation. Nothing could be farther from the truth. To renew the indebtedness by the issuance of negotiable notes would reduce taxation because instead of payieg ten or twelve percent interest on the existing indebtedness, the notes would cart y but six percent, affording a diiect saving, which would be reflected favorably to the taxpayer. The indebtedness was created a long time ago, and the notes, carried by the Springville hank had to be paid. Payment was made from the general fund, from w hich the salaries of teachers are paid. This fund has become de pleted and must be reimbursed. There is no other way of providing funds except by borrowing the money. It is to the best interest of every community and to parents and children that the negotiable notes be authorized. Every taxpayer who votes against the notes will express his unbelief in education and will place a stumd-linblock in the progress of this section of the state. Trial.
