Felix Faure, president of the ltcpubllc of France, died at 10 o'clock hist night, after an illness of three hours, of apoplexy. During the day M. Fnuro worked as usual and read tho olllclal documents and dispatches, with tho newspapers, as was his custom, In order to prcparo himself to preside at the council which assembled at 0 a. in. M. Faure presided with his usual ability, and on their taking leave the ministers could not have imagined that they wero pressing his hand for tho last time. He took his luncheon as usual at noon, returned to his study at 2 o'clock, nnd spent tho afternoon seated In a favorite arm chair by tho fire, conversing with M. Legall, who, about S o'clock, asked permission to depart. At 0 p. in., M. Legall returned, Immediately reporting himself to tho president, who was then signing decrees de-crees presented by General llallloud, according to his dally custom. Tho work of signing was then about over and soon ended. A fow minutes after six o'clock tho president was stricken, and he died on tho stroko of ten, despite all that could be dono for him. |
