You have come a long way just to spoil it all by taking chances which just don't pay For some of the juniors to begin stuffing now too is the beginning of a habit formation that will prevent many from accomplishing worthwhile careers One might as well say goodbye to graduation because stuffing is habit forming it is always the easy way out and1 if one plans to enter college he should change his ways The only thing most parents desire from their sons or daughters is accomplishment A person who throws away his opportunities by slipping classes carries the same habits into his life He is always trying to get something for nothing School and studies are a challenge to every student and if one has any ambition or ideals he should accept the challenge and master it it Friday April THE CARBONICLE Remember it's your life you are shaping No one else can mold for you What you harvest is exactly what you plant Club and Society News Vacations Enjoyed By Carbon Students Many trips were enjoyed by Carbon students over the out-of-to- Easter holiday Many came back sunburned while others complained about the cold weather but all agreed they enjoyed their vacations Some of the fortunate ones were Lorraine Pat Nordin Patsy Wilson Jim Bertelsen Barbara Migliori Floyd Barnett Bob Dal Ponte Phyllis Rowley Archie McCarrie Loma Collard Albert Barnett Jcannie Wright Gary Draper and Carollyn Hamilton who went to Hansen Last Wednesday several seminary students and their guests added a few more bruises to their collection when they went rollerskating at Cleveland They later came back to the seminary building where they enjoyed refreshments and then attended a show a group of students joined together with a class of Friday Weldon R Crouse married Gay Judd from Tooele March 22 in Reno The couple plan to mgi their home in Tooele Weldon is stationed at the Dugway Proving Grounds Miss Shirley Rowley a senior at Carbon became engaged to Harold (Whitey) Mason on March 31 Shirley is from Spring Glen and Whitey is from Hiawatha The couple will be married in the Temple in September seminary students and enjoyed a night full of activity They started the night out by journeying to Dragcrton where they tried their Miss Merle Olson became entalent at bowling later they reMoab turned to Price attended a show gaged to Dale Swanson March 30 Kelly Colombo Carl Morley and then returned to the seminary Both are senior students at CarKossmas Protopappas Loretta building where refreshments were bon They plan a fall wedding Abeyta Fred Regis Chuck Chris- served tenson Darlene Poulson Charlinc SPAGHETTI DINNER Van Netta Kent Anderson George Bonnie Lambson and Bob MigThe home of Terry Alpanalp Hatsis and Gary Wilson motored liori former Carbon students were was the setting Thursday evening to the San Rafael desert for the united in marriage last week at 5 for a spaghetti supper which was day pm at the home of the bride's cooked and served by a group of Gary Christensen Eldon Chris- parents Attending the bride as boys who made a bet The guests tensen Pat Wells and Kathryn maid of honor was her sister were Nolecna Mccham Ann Burnett enjoyed the sights of San- Maxine Wells Serving as best Larson Sandra SchmidtMary Valrnc pete county former home of Gary man was Dick Luke Only the McCourt Phyllis Anderson Cherio and Eldon members of the family attended Alger Joanne Frabizo Paul AnRobert Davis Grace Draper the ceremony drews James Mussatt Larry JenEvans Sheron Thayn and A reception was held for the sen Thomas Cobo Gerald Sprig Tom Hanna motored to Salina the same evening at the Gary Heath' and Terry Aplanalp Some visitors were couple The supper was the result of a Moose Hall An orchestra enterAlma Jean Lake who went to Sa-litained with dance music Refresh- bet that the boys could cook betColorado and Connie Peirce ments were served ter than the girls by Marie who visited Glcnwood Springs ColColSaccamanno Tony The above named group of girls orado leen Murphy and Mary Ann Spcn-sk- o will entertain the same group of Salt Lake City visitors were The couple received many boys at a dinner before a concluBeverly Ganscr and Kazuko Niwa beautiful gifts The couple are sion can be drawn as to who won now making their home in Salt the bet CARBON TEACHERS Lake City where Bob is employed HAVE EASTER VACATION and Bonnie will attend beauty MASTER TAILORS school Many of the teachers of Carbon and CLEANERS College took advantage of the long Raeona Jensen was married holiday Easter offered CLEANING — PRESSING March 22 in the Mantl Temple to Miss Elaine Timmerman travREPAIRING Tom Huntsman A reception honeled to Rupert Idaho to visit with was held Pries Utah her many friends and relatives oring the young couple in the Price evening Saturday there Fourth ward church Mrs Afton Rugger! Safety Before Pleasure By MARIE SACCOMANNO Iisn't it eerrifying? When you hear the siren blowing The big red light shining Cars pulling over at the side of the road What happened? You guessed! A terrible accident which could have been prevented Two couples coming from a drunken party Driving at an unreasonable speed ‘Did not see the other car coming around the curve Crashed head-oBoth cars completely demolished Man and woman in the other car killed instantly And the other four were brought to the hospital in a very serious condition Now that accident would not have happened if they had known the safety rules of driving Never drive a car when you are intoxicated That is a must! n! Gamble Time Not Life Statistics show that in the state of Utah the most dangerous age level for traffic accidents is from 16 to 24 years old This isn’t a problem to be solved by the police or any one person It is a problem for you and me Did you know that more traffic accidents occur on a Sunday afternoon between 5 and 6 o’clock on a straight highway? These accidents arc caused by one of two reasons— ignorance or speed Eight per cent of all accidents are caused by drinking alcoholic beverages Even though this is a low percentage the old saying still makes sense "If you drink don't drive It you drive don't drink" More and more people are being killed by traffic accidents than one dreaded disease And more will still be killed because any by one person will die for every chance that is taken Everyone knows that lire Is a gamble but it is better to gamble a portion of time than it is to gamble with a life Remember it is better to get where you are going late than not at all Use common courtesy— the life you save may be your own Election Time By JOIIN SnEETS Carbon College and High School elections will be held soon To some of us this means an opportunity to exercise our rights as citizens of the United States It means we will be able to choose the officers to represent us for the coming year to others it will probably mean Just another opportunity to show off In the past years some of the students at Carbon have not taken school elections seriously A small group of students tend to think they are clever when they nominate a student who Is not capable of properly representing his school When doing this they tend to embarass the student they nominated if they know and the student knows that he is not capable of holding the office If the student they nominate should be elected by some chance would we the students of Carbon be proud of him when he must represent us at various functions? The students who are elected for the studentbodv officers should have an A or B average a good personality and ambition to do and accomplish something for the school while in office There are many students of this calibre attending school here When the studentbody holds its nominating this year let's nominate students who can represent Carbon at its best Our school has a fine reputation as an educational Listitutlon Let's uphold its fine standards Win-tero- A CAPPELLA CHOIR PRESENTS ASSEMBLY Carbon students were treated to a special concert by the a cappella choir Wednesday morning This performance marked their first appearance in their new robes which arc royal blue with golden stoles The impressive group entertained with a variety of group and individual numbers The program was directed by Mrs Dorothy Brown and announced by Alan Jacobs Accompanists were Joan Pitts Katherine Oviatt and Mrs Brown Lubrication — Car Washing Spray Glaze COOKIE'S SERVICE Now Located at Exclusive Jewelers TVwlthTAUTOMATIC PRICE Radio-Televisi-on Curl’s Record Shop Electrical Appliances Musical Equipment Jewelry Sporting Goods HELPER FURNITURE LaSalle Hotel Building Phone 247 Helper North Main — Helper Your Dependable Station CO Of Price 21 West Main Pries 161 Get Your White Stag and Jantzen PLAY CLOTHES SCHOOL and DRESS SHOES JOLENE’S stop — snor NOW — AT UBelva’s PRICE Gloria Shop UTAH |
