FASHION CROSSROADS OPERA CLASS OFFERS A GAME OF CHANCE A Game of Chance, a one-ac- t comic opera, will be presented April 6 and 8 at 8 p.m. in Thorley Recital Hall and will be free to students with show of activity card. The operas story line is about three women knitters who want different things out of life, one fame, one fortune and the other romance, said the operas musical director Suzanne Collier, assistant professor of music. The single male character, the Representative, strives to fulfill their wishes, bringing happiness and sorrow with each wish. The story is very interesting, Collier said. Its about the things that we all want. She described the feelings of schizophrenia resulting from people getting what they want. This half-hou-r opera was produced by volunteers and members of an opera musical theatre class taught by Collier. Junior music major Jason Clark is the student producer. Collier and Kaylen Barth will be the two piano accompanists. To provide more students with the opportunity for performing, Collier created two casts. Both performances will have people with a different set of personalities. Therell be lots to see and learn, she said. Christine Corbridge, Melissa Ellsworth, Adrianne Jensen and Bruce Rigby will perform April 6. Lynda Brady, Cynthia Sensiba, Deborah Brey and John Griffith will be in the second performance. A Game of Chance is a wonderful beginning for the opera program at SUSC, Collier said. This is her first year at SUSC and her first year conducting an opera program. Opera is a multimedia production; it involves music, drama, staging, ensemble and solo singing and the joy of working with an accompanist, she said.
