Show Cohen's Mob. Washington, 21. This morning a gang of Cohen'B followers visited the back yarde ol Childs & Washington company, nhere they prevented the men from going to work. The mob composed of colored men, was reinforced rein-forced shortly afterwards by about fifty others. Police were soon at the scene and dispersed the crowd, arresting the leader, a negro named George Washington. Some of tbe men resumed work acd others joined the mob which started for other pointj, but was driven 08 by the police. Tbe entire re-erves are at the police headquarters and troops are at the arsenal ready to move at a moment's notice. Where the police charged there was a Bhort struggle, but the batons of the police triumphed and the mob departed, leaving one of their number wbo hadctruck an officer in tbe bands of the police. Coben, abandoned by bis allies, made for his headquarters, New Jersey avenue. Additional United 8tates troops buve arrived, but it is confidently believed the police are equal to any emergency. |
