Show GINGER HILL CELEBRATE WEDDING anniversary ANNIER SARY OCT by mrs frank halls mr and mrs robert wilkins of ginger hill san juan county observed their wedding anniversary niver sary oct 30 at their home mr wilkins was born in washington la ia in 1875 and minta sn snodgrass wilkins was born in corning kans in 1877 they were marred in lola iola kans and lived there until 1814 they came to san juan county in 1916 where they have since Te resided sided they came here for the purpose of installing the power plant at monticello and mr wilkins and his brother installed the power plant at monticello and blanding during the years of 1917 and 1918 he has done electrical work off and on for the last few years the wilkins homesteaded homestead ed a acre farm in the ginger hill area and have farmed this land s f until now ow retired and leased eased their farm 4 when they came to the san juan joan in the fall dallof of 1916 and saw the wonderful crops grown by dry land practices they decided this was the place they wanted to lo stay and they the dont think they made a mistake mrs wilkins taught school in ginger hill seven terms ending in 1925 mr wilkins was one of five men who started the oil activities in the monticello vicinity and was secretary trea of the boulder knoll oil gas company they were among the organizers of the community church in monticello and at present mrs airs wilkins is clerk and mr wilkins moderator they also started the ginger hill sunday school they are the thel parents of three children two having died in infancy their daugh daughter t er G glendora endor a frizell and four grandchildren clara mae juanita edris ana robert live in durango colo oct 30 commencing at four open house was held at their home the table was covered with a lace tablecloth and a two tier wedding cake which had been decorated by their granddaughter clara mae was in the center and on each end were two double gold candle sticks with four white tapers yellow chrysanthemums mums were also used for decorations the members of the community church presented the wilkins with a china tea set in yellow and gold they were also presented with a cream and sugar and spoon holder hand painted that had been 0 given to mr and mrs E E wil wilkins kin s the parents of robert on their golden wedding anniversary in 1922 at their home in vermillion kans in the evening commencing at eight their club members in the ginger hill hil I 1 vicinity came in brought refreshments and gifts and spent the even ng playing games when asked to what they attributed their long and happy life they stated operation cooperation co and hard work |
