pennsylvania august 8 1815 and was one of the early converts to the truth of the gospel as revealed through the prophet joseph whom she ahe met in the year 1839 and heard relate the wonderful manifestations fe from god to him in which the Jound aion ion of this great work was laid she sought for and obtained a LesLi testimony mony tor for herself that he was a prophet and that his teachings were the pure principles of tile the gospel of the sun son of god although being a leading light among her friends in religious matters in the neighborhood where she lived on being convinced of the truth of the gospel she had receive i she immediately told them of the new light she had received and threw the lull strength siren gih of her exceptionally forceful character on the side of the now new faith and devoted every energy of her soul to 10 the promotion ot its welfare by earnest devotion and faith she succeeded in bringing her and sisters to see the light of the gospel as she saw 11 jt lu the spring of 1846 under great est she gathered gai hered with her huab husband 43 children and seme of her near relatives to Natu vou preparatory to making the arduous journey into the unknown wilderness luio anio which the body ot of the church was then moving she passed the winter of 1848 1840 and 1847 with her family at winter quarters and in the spring of 1847 continued the ahe journey to salt halt lake valley arriving here oo ober 3rd ard enduring all the hardships ot of these theise lourney ings not only without a murmur but imparted of her superabundant faith to cheer and support those inose less abundantly endowed she alao bore all the trials and hardships incident to 10 the early settlement seu lement ot of this country unflinchingly for with the eye or ol faun she always saw the ultimate triumph of the principles of truth she had so ardently espoused being a woman of un usual strength ot of character he had bad but to know her duty however onerous and she had bad the strength to per perform forin it she subordinated everything to the one purpose of her life the sustaining and de lending of the kingdom ot of god and its welfare was her constant theme and prayer in her seventy third year she nad had her log leg broken but with the rare nerve that always characterized her she endured the pain and discomfort attending the accident and f ully fully recovered her health and spent a large part pan of her subsequent life in the performance of temple work she did not die of sickness but of old age the weary wheels of life at last stood still and she sank quietly to sleep with composure and perfect faith that all was well with ner soul the memory of her devotion to duty her rub sublime laith her fidelity to 10 every principle of righteousness will long remain to cheer and strengthen streng ihen the loved ones she has left behind and we are assured that she has attained to that blessed peace and rest with god that are the reward of those who serve him faithfully communicated CHARLES BYRON FIFIELD died at weston idaho january 24 1895 charles byron fifield axed aged 62 charles byron fifield was born at newhaven vermont march 1 1883 in the summer of 1843 at the age of 10 years he removed with his bis parents to nauvoo and from there here to Ka kanesville Kanes neaville ville in the summer of 1846 from there he came to utah in 1848 and went to california in 1849 after spending two years at the latter place returned to utah and settled in ogden he again went to california in 1853 and shortly after his return in 1855 was united in marriage to miss lucy hardy he was called caled on an indian mission to fort supply he went as far south as payson at the time of the move south and upon his return settled in huntsville ogden valley in the year 1861 in the year 1871 he removed with his family to weston oneida county idaho at which place he resided up to the time of his sudden demise january 24 1895 his death was wait caused by falling through a shed and taking a severe cold he was rick only one week deceased was widely known and respected he leaves a wife and eight children four fou r sons and four daughters to mourn his respects reap ecta to one more of israels daughters who in her tell a victim to the grim monster who is termed death this time it was sister elizabeth ann newman smith aged 32 years 9 months and 5 days she passed away from her mortal house february let leaving six little children and a husband to mourn her de departure she lived in big cottonwood ward but the father and mother were buried in south cottonwood eem cemetery the parents of georgs george F smitha the bereaved husband formerly lived in farmington davis county utah but became members of this ward hence the funeral at this thin daughter of william E jones and martha manna vaughan aged 21 years 10 months and 13 days she leaves a husband and two small children to 10 mourn her departure she was beloved and respected by all al 1 who knew her heir being a true latter day saint and kind kind and loving to all and her death ha haa caused a deep gloom on our little place never to be forg forgotten she has been a model in her life and the husband and parents have the sympathy of many warm friends the funeral services were held on saturday at the meeting house which ara was crowded with anxious hearts to pa pay V their last
