officers at a retreat held in Joe's Valley recently The student body officers ranging s from the president to members of the activities and publicity committees came in support for this outing The day began by introducing everyone and telling what each person's responsibilities were Officers told why they wanted to be involved in student government and talked about their goals and asperations Most of everyone's concern was to prepare and organize more quality activities that would unify the students from varied backgrounds and build up school spirit The next area that concerned the officers wu the task of preparing the rest of fall quarter's activities particularly homecoming Blue Debs name nine new members by Brenda Bocdin of the Eagle Staff Nine new members were selected for the 1986-8- 7 Blue Debs squad Thor are: Vangie Bisquera Wendover Brenda Bogdin Huntington: Stacy Henrie and Laura Williams Wellington Monica Leonard Lorri Fatter and Jodie Scartezina Sylvester Price: Katrina Brigham City: and Pamela Zillner Midvale Utah The officers are Joy Peterson advisor Vangie Bisquera and Monica Leonard coaptains and Stacy Henrie and Brenda Bogdin The representative officers selected make up a board decisions on the which make uniforms worn at games and other important issues The Blue Debs prsctice Monday through Friday from 7 to 8:30 am to prepare for performances They march at home games for both the football and basketball teams They will perform during halftime their second performance of the season during Homecoming The Blue Debs do travel 8 occasionally On November Mesa to travel will Debs the Arizona to perform at the Sun Invitational Basketball Tournament where the Eagles will be playing The Debs will travel to one or two 24-2- away games in the upcoming months Mrs Peterson added The uniforms that the girls wear during halftime are selected by the advisor The Debs have six separate uniforms to choose from The uniforms are not bought each year Instead the members must pay a rental fee to use the uniforms "This is a talented group that the audience will enjoy watching” Mrs Peterson said Cooperative Education receives rave reviews education After being implemented only one year College of Eastern Utah's education program cooperative received impressive reviews on the organizational and structural components by W Harvey Sharron and Associates a conaulting and evaluation firm in Gainsville Florida Walter Barme is director of CEU’s cooperative education program in Price and Dennis Bradford ia the director on the CEU San Juan Campus in Blending Sharron reported that he was pleased with the overall and comprehensive Its program component objectives budget and strengths are commendable I have been exposed to one of the best presentations in the area of cooperative education that I have ever participated in as a professional consultant over the past 15 years" As of April 1986 Barra had 13 companies participating in the six month old program An additional twelve businesses and organizations were being developed for participation Sharron felt that faculty recruitment for cooperative was one of the most difficult phases in the establishment and development of a successful program cooperative education CEU has put together an excellent program which involved an education incentive activity for faculty members to participate in during spring winter and summer quarters Sharron wrote At the end of spring quarter 92 students were placed in cooperative education work experience When the first year grant proposal was submitted to the US Department of Education it specified that CEU should plsce 75 students in business fields that are related to their educational goals CElTs program exceeded that number by 17 Barra had placed students with the US Forest Service Southeastern Utah Health Department Joy Manufacturing Nielson Construc- tion Mountain Fuel Supply Company Carbon Country Club KOA1VKARB Radio and KRPX Q101 Radio to name some of the companies e His second year goals are to increase enrollment and already fall quarter he ia ahead of his projected growth numbers Barra said that he feltmuch of his success comes from the administrative support he receives from CEU and area businesses Another factor ia the willingness of the ftailty coordinators of the program "They really care about their students" he added Barra feels that CEU is truly in a unique situation to serve students and industry in Southeastern Utah "Cooperative education can be the vehicle for bridging the ao called town and gown' gap that often exista in college communities programs operative In addition to working on the local level Barra has been instrumental support the CEU cooperative' in obtaining the support of the three of "Silent Night" and "Fantasy On A Bell" will be the highlights of this year's Choir and Band Christmas Concert The concert is scheduled at 8 pm December S in the Geary Theatre Under the direction of Jay Andrus the concert and chamber choirs will perform a number of Christmas selections including "Silent Night" arranged by Paul Sjalund an interesting arrangement of "Jingle Bells" "It's A Marshmellow World In The Winter" and "It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" among others that are not as well known The concert choir has 35 members and the chamber choir is strong Andrus says that ho is very pleased with this year’s choirs' ability to read and learn music The band under the direction of Derral Siggard has 20 members and is busy preparing six or seven pieces for the concert "Christinas Festival" and "Fantasy On A Bell" and "Two Military Marches” are a few of the selections they will be playing according to Carrie Muir band member |
