Show 2 CEU Friday November 7 1986 Winning is not everything by Frank Walter Eafle Sports Editor The wont team in the conference" "we got beat again" and "why can't they win a game" These were some of the many comments that I have heard all year long about our volleyball team but are all these statements true? The volleyball team ended the season with a 7 record Statisticly this does not look like a very impressive season and it shouldn't be I mean what kind of team wins three games and loses seven they must have been terrible That is the comment that I have been hearing around campus So let's take this team into consideration My first point is that if the volleyball team was so terrible then how did they ever win three games? There are a lot of people who when the team loses have all sorts of criticism but when they win they don't have much of anything to say The funny thing is that the people who usually have all these little comments were never at the game in the first place So what gives them the right to criticize or praise My second point is that the volleyball team wu a lot better than their record showed For one thing the team consisted of three sophomores and the rest were freshmen These are not very good odds especially in a conference like the WICAC which contains powerhouses like Snow Ricks and UTC lady volleyball teams Remember the team only played poorly in three of their 10 conference games the others were relatively close My third point is that the team showed a lot of guts by coming on strong at the end of the season by winning two straight home games These gals could have rolled over and died because they had no chance of having a winning season but they came out strong and won two out of their last three games College students political views I'm not trying to find excuses to make the team lode better than they over the past 20 yean havs shifted to really were but left give credit where credit is due They all improved middle of the road and their vslues throughout the year and they started to come together at the end of the season have changed to being veiy well off I would like to say that with the circumstances of new coaches and personnel a top personal goaL Based on 20 yean of polling data the team had a great season and should be commended for on 6 million freshmen they began their college careen the report tlc chronicled a sharp rise in students’ interest in material success and a by Joel Menna study decrease in their concern about developing a philosophy to live of the Eagle Stall 3-- Today’s college students want the good life it Another u u student body non-enthuslas- It seems strange to me while a school with only 1700 students enrolled by The surveys document distinct and no real enthusiasm for the school would have a homecoming The reason changes in the makeup and lifestyle for homecoming celebrations is to enhance the spirit a school already has of college freshman since 1966 achieved But if there is no real excitement or spirit at the school then there Women once outnumbered 'on really is not a reason for a homecoming week campus by men 67 percent to 43 When you look back at a high school homecoming there is really nothing quite like it The whole school becomes involved in the activities during this festive week no matter how unusual or bazaar they were One event which comes to mind is the big pep rallies before the football game It seemed like everyone in the community would show up to support the rally And after the by Trevor H Olsen game it would be time for the dance where both young and old would partake of the Eagle Staff of a 'very special evening in venture some too a educatingjrou higher expect When starting thing) "Fashion Around The World: be different but not a homecoming AtCEU it definitly is different but not for And Now" is the theme of the Then week blame forthelackof enthusiasm the better Ifyouhadtolay duringthis fourth Scholarship Fashion Show Also at the school more( it would have to go to the student's been of more nave student to the activities sponsored by Family Life interest body couia planned Cosmetology SMS and Fashion fire bon concerts include mud football football powderpuff Examples The annual event tail-gaMerchandising and reunions parties 18 in the November be will if Tuesday week but activities for the lined some officers student The they great up Students can Theatre officers should Geary to been the now of activities have most the the out turn way up Scholarship fashion show percent became a majority eight years ago and now fill 62 percent of all the seats but beer Smoking is down drinking is up High school grades are up sharply -
