Show CEMENT PLANT I 1 experts from east examine gypsum abig bic blast in deposit slices it to be purest gypsum cement mill to be built next winter As noted in last weeks week re iper there is a resumption of activity in tile the gypsum deposits at sigurd it is expected that an expert from the east would mould arrive and look into the deposit ii i I deball not one but two v 0 experts arca and b have ave sa s1 spent e n t several ev ill dds d aa s in going into deta detailed ia ed in esti gation of the proposition nd ind the result has been a sur surprise prie to both the experts and the officers of the jumbo company it ha haa been well mell known n to the locators of that property that the deposit was out of the ordinary but the opinion of these experts has stait stag the jumbo people gypsum is by no means a rare article in these united states as there are large deposits in many states of the union but the sevier valley gypsum is purer than any ever seen in the country and herein lies its chief value the gentlemen who are visiting here for business reasons desire their identity kept in the background they have had years and years of ex pe peri nence ence samples were sent tn the mills malls owned by the companies with which they are connected and so BO pure were the samples submitted that doubt was expressed that such a deposit existed upon arrival here in company with officers of the local c company 0 the deposits were visited the mountain of gypsum was favorably coerne somme cited upon but the elder of the two visitors expressed a to have hane a hole bele drilled near he be top of one of tle the claims the local officers di did d not understand why this should be done but they complied with the request the hoi hols was drilled to a depth of 15 or 20 feet and three I 1 aas of powder were cosed in the blast the result was astonishing nearly a hundred tons of gypsum were mere dis d is lodged and the very heart of the deposit was exposed the local men were no longer in the dark as to tye the object of the blasland bla blast stand and the visitors foresight was disclosed dis cosed the quality of the gypsum did not diminish by the experiment peri ment instead it rather increased as the gypsum at the greatest depth proved to be ab dure and it is really an alabaster a la baster deposit the real object of the isit of these experts is shown in that experiment both are connected with a keene cement plant in the east and if a pure gypsum can be found then the certainty of a keene cement plant for this county is assured while the plaster planter of paric pans produced from gypsum is an important commer lial article it does not compare with keene cement in value the former enters into the building trades and is one of the most important materials in the construction of large buildings III n fact it is taking the place of lumber ber to a great extent thousands upon thousands of feet of lumber are replaced annually by the ever increase ing uses to which plaster of paris pans is being being put partition walls ale being made of it blovas and slabs are and set into the partitions and it makes it a cheaper and more durable partition vall mail than aril an thing vet net discovered keene cement is more of a decorative material and is used largely in imitation of marble and onyx this cement is made from a chemical combination of plaster of paris pans alum and other things the nature of which is kept a profound Dro uro found secret by those engaged in the manufacture of the cement there is a large an aal I 1 growing demand for this material this country uses lic between tween and tons daily and of this amount 90 per cent is imported from europe thero there are mills in new york and others in kansas and they cin can in no wise supply the demand from the ga gypsum sont cast keeno keene cement was made and nieces of the cement were sent heie at first sight it looks look like white marble it is not nearly bo be heavy as marble marbe but it is capable of high polish and in the hanah of expert workmen it can be made to look like 1111 the finest grades of italian marble or gr mexican the fine vein ings of marble in any color can be imparted to it and buildings finished continued on eighth I 1 rage size KEENE CEMENT PLANT continued from first page with it will deceive anyone but an expert the great trouble w aith ith the other deposits in the manufacture of this cement is that foreign matter is found with the gypsum and the grade of cement is not as good as when the gypsum is pure as in the deposit at sigurd while there has been no great market for this cement in utah the architects of the coast cities realize its balue and it is in great demand there in interior adornment of buildings and a ready market will be found for all the cement that can be turned out A mill will be built here the coming winter with a capacity sufficient for present needs and with facilities of developing to tons daily capacity this will supply the pacific coast with cement at a be better ater figure than when han the material is shipped from eastern markets keene cement is by no means a new material it has been manu manufactured for years and more in europe the beauties of it for interior decoration are only beginning to be appreciated in the west and the building of a mill for its production in this valley means the bringing of large sums of money to the doors of the residents of this much favored valley A contract between 14 gypsum company and the representatives of the eastern company compan has bern been drawn up as to the delivery of a certain bount n of crude gypsum at the blant of the keene cement company this makes the establishment of a plant here a dead certainty the exact conditions dit ioris of the contract are not given out but this much is certain that the investigations of the gentlemen from the east have been most satisfactory and the keene cement plant will have the use of facilities and power from the jumbo company the jumbo plaster mill will N ill be in operation in about sixty days if present plans do not miscarry and the coming winter will see a cement mill in operation |
