Show Volume XIV Issue XVII The Ogden Valley news Page 5 November 15, 2007 Local Resident Summer Kilgore Lands Lead Role in Musical Summer Kilgore of Huntsville, Utah Millie Dillmount, who leaves small town just finished playing the role of “Millie” in Casper College’s production “Thoroughly Summer as “Millie” with guest production director Kurt Stamm. Modern Millie.” For Summer, it was a dream come true. Anyone who knows the petite, 5 foot Kilgore knows of her passion for music and especially musical theater. Summer fell in love with “Thoroughly Modern Millie” a few years ago when she attended the off Broadway production at the Capital Theater. The show is based on Kansas and heads to New York City circa 1922 to become a modern woman against all odds. It is based on a 1967 film of the same name that starred Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore. It was adapted to stage in 1994 and won 11 Tony Awards after its first run on Broadway. “This is like a dream come true for me to do this show,” Kilgore said. “I’m this little Utahn, and coming to Casper College was the biggest shock of my life when I could have just stayed in Utah and lived at home where I was comfortable. I can definitely relate to Millie.” Kilgore was in Millie’s shoes for most of October running off stage to change from regular to tap shoes again and again. Summer also had the opportunity to work with Casper native and New York director Kurt Stamm. He choreographed and directed the production as a guest artist. Stamm is a professional actor and director who has directed on and off Broadway. Summer is in her second year at Casper College where she received a full ride scholarship in Musical Theater. Casper is a two year school, so Summer is keeping her options open of where to continue her college education next year. Wherever it is, you can bet it’ll involve more music, dance, and theater. Klein states, “It is my desire to create a heightened awareness of the need for systematic, explicit and developmentally appropriate reading instruction for Pre-K, Kindergarten and at-risk learners. With sequence and structure and hands-on materials, we can dramatically increase the reading readiness of children before they enter first grade and thus drastically reduce the instances of reading failure among first graders.” The presentation is free to the public.
