Show Relays Tomorrow Tomorrow at Provo the BYIJ stadium will become the scene of what is probably the greatest annual track and field meet in Utah. The Y relays attract athletes from the entire intermountain area. The Intermountain College Conference will be represented by nearly every school in the circuit, in addition to entries from Weber, Ricks and Albion. The event certainly has all the ingredients of an outstanding success. Last week the Parson mentor, Pete Atkinson, told your re- porter that he planned to enter the same events with practically the same squad that made such a fine record at Hurricane two weeks ago. Members of the squad are Benton, Scarborough, Richardson, Harmston, Wright, Dorius, Morgan and Bennion. Coach indicated that a doubles tennis team would probably enter the court contest. Ralph Jazzbo Miller and Kay Palmer will team up to give the Parsons a strong twosome for the tennis tournament. Howard Richardson, first place winner in singles at Hurricane, will dish out plenty of trouble for his opponents when he takes his place at the service line. Students will be required to take all six hours of Bible study in their first two years at Carroll College, according to a new rule voted upon and passed by the faculty. Heretofore, requirements stated that three hours were to be taken by the end of the sophomore year and the remaining three any time prior to graduation. A number of courses have been added to the religious education department, it was announced. During the coming school year, students will have a choice of at least ten offerings in religious education. BRANCH RICKEY Varsity Magazine heard college baseball put the blame on 'organized baseball but Ive told colleges that if theyd stay out of the pro field, wed stay out of the college field. There isnt a pro ball club in the country that doesnt have written evidence in quantity that some colleges have induced talented ball players to enter school. The boys are then kept in college on such terms as wed call professionalism. RED ROLFE Back in the days when I coached Yale, I found no lack of interest in baseball. I think the situation today can be remedied and so Ill use Varsity Magazines columns to suggest these points to college authorities: 1 Members of the Westminster basketball squad and Coach Atkinson were the guests of President Steele at a dinner on April 14. The affair, held in the Beau Brummel Cafe, was a renewal of a pre-w- ar tradition honoring the cagers. Dean Boughton and Professor Watkins, faculty representative of 'the Intermountain College Conference, were among the guests at the banquet which wrote finis to basketball activity for the year. Bill Zogg, rangy guard for the Parson crew last winter, was awarded a trophy for winning the foul pitching title for the year, and Paul Brown, one of the leading scorers in the conference during the recent campaign, was made honorary team captain for the past year. staffs the way you do in foot- ball.
