Road Show The Lehi Fifth ward won the first place honors in the M. I. A. Road show. The Fifth ward's act, "An Old Fashioned Locket And ft Curl" was proclaimed first place winner by the Judges following the presentation of the show Tuesday evening in the stake tabernacle. The Fourth ward's show, "Beacon Light" won the second place honors. All of the acts were outstanding presentations and the points were exceedingly close in the Judging, it is reported. The shows were Judged on a point score basis and each Judge sealed his decision in an envelope en-velope and then the points were tallied up by stake officers, revealing reveal-ing the winners. All Judges were from out' of town. The theme and idea of the winning win-ning act was originated by Mrs. Vera Trane and was written into story form and directed by Mrs. Florence Gudmundsen. Accompa nists were Mrs. Norma McCarrie, piano, and Alva H. Wing, electric organ. The act was woven about an old fashioned locket. A young couple, Miss June Anderson and Donald Rick, were talking together and she was showing him a locket given to her by her mother, in which was a picture of her grandparents on their wedding day. As the story enfolds the grandparents in their wedding attire step from a giant locket and In their speech bring out the M. I. A. theme for this year "My son, keep your Father's commandments and fqrsake not the law of thy mother, etc." A group of young people at the garden party dance one of the M. I. A. dances and after the entrance of the grandparents from the locket, couples participate in a dance of grandmother's day. It was very cleverly worked out. The act was introduced toy song and dance numbers by Glenna Rick and Alvin Schow, dressed in old fashioned costumes and singing "Johnny Steele Has A New Automobile" Auto-mobile" and "Oh, You Beautiful Doll" The Fourth ward's act was entitled, en-titled, "Beacon Light" and brought out the theme that we all have a beacon light to guide us if we but heed it. The scene took place in Ireland on the shores of the ocean. Irish girls entertain the old light keeper with songs and dances and the beacon light is turned on, sav ing a ship from crashing against the rocks. When the captain and his crew and passengers come to shore, the little Irish girl, Kathie, lost several years ago and found by the old lighthouse keeper, is reunited re-united with her mother. The scenery, painted by Stanford Russon, was very outstanding, M. I. A. officers worked out the theme. Miss Alta Christensen di rected the performance. The First ward's act, "The Light of the World" brought out the fact that religion is the vital force in the world and with it hate, greed, etc. can be conquered. The idea and theme were originated by the Mutual Mu-tual officers- It was written into play form by Mrs. Edna Banks and was directed by Miss Theda Henke. The story of the act showed the influence that religion has in doing do-ing away with evils. Aided by beauty, grace and charm, religion transformed the entire setting from the undesirable into the desirable. The Second ward presented "Heaven's Above." Miss RuthShel-ton RuthShel-ton directed the performance. It showed St Peter at the Golden Gates with angels in the . background back-ground and various individuals from earth came to gain entrance through the gates. Some of them gained entrance without a doubt, while others were rather surprised. It was very cleverly carried out. One feature was a devil dance. The background and stage setting was very beautiful. The Third ward's act, "Our Allegiance" Alle-giance" portrayed a patriotic theme. A little boy asked his grandfather why it was that the United States were not at war with one another while the other countries were fighting, and in the United States we have all nationalities. As the grandfather explained to the lad our conditions here, the various nations of the world now living in the United States, were represented with song and dance numbers of their native countries and as a climax all joined together in unity. The forming of a huge American Flag and the entrance of Uncle Sam made a beautiful and effective climax. The play was written by Norma Price and directed by Iva Dell and Mirl Sunderland. Numbers given between acts included in-cluded a vocal solo by Gilbert Sim-monds, Sim-monds, a piano duet by Elaine and LuGene Peterson, a cornet solo by Keith Eddington, piano solo by La-Priel La-Priel Goodwin, a cello solo by Maur- World's Largest Selling Liniment 4,460,050 Bottles of Watkins Liniment Sold U i939 i j With your purchase of each bottle of Linime I or double-strength Vanilla, get your choice of ' 60c can of Pepper for a dime or Large petr I Carbo Salve for a dime, or Baking Powder " ' Cocoa.
