Christiansen as The Farnsworth elementary PTA is organizing a Helping Hands program to assist children in getting to and from school safely. The program involves parents who are home during the times children are walking to school and home again, offering support to any child who has a problem, whether it be an approach by a stranger or needing a bandaid for a scraped knee, said public relations chairman Nancy Brantner. Any parent w ho will be home during the hours immediately before and after school who would like to assist with this program is being asked to contact Carol Anne to our new West Valley City Council, in particular, Mr. Ron Day. Mayor Hank Price and Mr. Ron Day came out to the bridge to evaluate and ascess our needs. Yet that is what elementary. This was a great concern to most of the parents, particularly those with younger children, as the canal was left wide open with no precautions as to the safety of the children. I have worked in the previous Academy Park PTSA presidency trying to obtain safety measures from the county on the old foot bridge and on the new bridge. It was a lot of red tape and at times I felt like I was batting my head against a stone wall. water Furthermore my protest was against exces- sive penalties for late payments - not nonpayments Now 1 am not advocating making a habit of late payments Far from it However it happens to the best of us and for many different reasons. Other utilities not only give you better than 30 days to make up a late payment before imposing penalties, but they find it adequate to impose a , per month penalty Why then does K I D need 10 ? When the drought hit us a few years ago, most of us did our part by cooperating with suggested water use Our lawns dried up and it has taken several years to bring them back Also after many of us installed a sprinkler system our water pressure dropped, leaving us short of the pressure needed Kearns Improvement District (water and sewer service) charges if to Some- one somewhere is not doing their job' Above all this our rates have been raised I think it's time for a change in our favor Perhaps your water bill is small and 10 does not concern you But for those of us with large yards and large water bills 10 is not only outrageous, but unfair your bill is paid so much as one day late. When I inquired about this excessive penalty, I was told it was the only way K I D. could make people pay their bill. This I do not believe. It may be true that we use our water so often and so freely we take it for the peo- themselves unless enough public pressure is applied. If you are concerned I would like you to voice your opinion Come to the K I D Board meeting, which is open to the public, on Aug 28 at 7:30 p m.
