Show south at AE uv dor r iaan street the E n after the disastrous fire of june 19 1898 the following editorial is from the park record ot of june 25 1898 and was written in a tent put up on the site ot of the destroyed record building and which served as a business office until a new building was erected and an entire new plant was installed OUR olk TOWNS CALAMITY it Is not olten often that men are called upon to tace face such wholesale disaster as vas visited on this community sunday morning last and it Is not often that a 26 community so BO visited proves its moral worth and stoutheartedness stout heartedness so completely as have the people of this town since the awful fire which made hundreds homeless and penniless no description can call adequately convey an intelligent idea or of the scene of desolation and ruin which confronts one on every side when a walk is taken through the once busy main street of this the best governed and best taken care ot of mining town in alie state but among the hundreds and hundreds of homeless and scores of ruined business men not a whimper not a sign of discouragement or haplessness hop Is heard or seen park city Is filled with brave men and brave women men and women who by nature occupation and surroundings are re eminently fitted to fight lifes battles and make the most of 0 the gifts which god has endowed them they are a rugged freeborn free born and self reliant class of people who breathe pure air eat wholesome food and have no knowledge of 0 the small conceptions of life 1 when normal conditions again prevail lav in t the h 0 camp when our people have recovered e red from the sudden shock of the j battle through which they have lust just passed the same energetic progressive loyal go ahead spirit will be manifest on every hand band and from the ruins of today another splendid park city will ce be reared and its people will be the same generous honest and honored host as ot of yore with all who have been stricken we sincerely sympathize and with all the rest we have suffered greatly ourselves but where theres a will theres a way and it if we mistake not in six months from today the great appalling destructive conflagration of june will be but an unpleasant memory with nearly all who are suffering now |
