She is now attending summer school at Fort Collins, Colo. Mrs. Potter has won the love and respect of her students while in the Lehi High School and will be missed there next year. Adams, Kxecuiive Director of the Department of Placement and Unemployment Insurance. Mr. Adams stated that his figures were based upon reports from approximately seven thousand Utah employers who employed an average of 80,185 workers for each month of the year. The average monthly wage In the mining industry was $133.92. This was $3.00 more than the average for those working for finance. Insurance, and real estate companies, and approximately 17.00 more than was paid those working for Intrastate transportation, communicaThe average tion, and utilities. wage for construction worker was 194.10 a nioath; for wholesale and retail workers, $95.41: service workers, $77.4S; and for manufacturing workers, $110.83. The state wide average monthly wage of $105.65 was $2.00 less than the stato wide average tor 1937, but $3 00 more than the average for 1938. The total payroll for the year, exclusive of intrastate railroads, agriculture, domestic, and public payroll, was $102,000,000. This Is within $6,000,000 of the big pay roll years of the 1920s, and approximately $44,000,000 more than the pay roll In the depths of the depression. Mr. Adams stated that the upturn in Utah began in December of 1938 and that the defense program has accelerated the upturn. Robison has been named as delegate to represent the local Lions Club at the Lions International Convention to be held in The convention will New Orleans. be held on July 22 to 25 inclusive. It is particularly fitting that the Lehi Club be represented in this convention because the Utah Clubs have been given the responsibility of furnishing the program for a "Utah Night" which will be held in the ballroom of the Headquarters Hotel on the evening of July 23. Mr. Robison is a member of this committee who will present the program. Mr. Robison has served for more than three years as secretary of the local Lions Club, last year he served and was as First chosen by the District Governor to serve as a Deputy. At this convention, the name of a Utah man, D. A. Skeen of Salt Lake City, will be presented as Third for all Lions International.
