Feme: I can see where this could be up for cBscumIoil I csn understand where If we give It to one side, we really are obligated to give It to the other. Dave: Let me explain why I feel very strongly about this. I feel the need to make decisions that will have a good effect on the county and from what I have seen, I feel wilderness la not what Is good for our county. And I don't believe that I have any responsibility to support something that In my opinion Is going to be a detriment to the county. Ifs not my responsibility to do both sides. Ive always opposed It I have all the Information I need. Some people might say, what do you know? Well thats Just the way I feeL I ; ' be like me excluding vour answers from this Zephyr: I Interview every time didnt agree with what vou said? Dave: Sure. But you're the one who started this paper. Yeah, It might not appear folr, but I feel very strongly that I dont have, a responsibility to give a voice to something Im opposed to. Would the Commission look favorably upon that Tom Rees IfiflyfiSl? Feme: Id have to study our budget. Dave: I would look favorably upon binding them, but right now things are very doubtful for the future. I think rather than providing more money, were going to have to do some serious cutting In the future. The road Is In San Juan County, but IPs used almost exclusively bv Grand Countv residents and tourists. Grand Countv has maintained the road as far as Kens Lake. Would It be possible to at least fill some pot holes out there? The read h almost Irewnw a Mfoty.lrotri. Dave: Sure, we have agreements with San Juan County now on the Loop Road. The question bolls down to, do we want to take over a road that's been left by San Juan County to deteriorate to that condition. Do we tell them, you fix It, we'll take h over? Right now, I wouldnt look at us taking over that road. We have the Loop Road and thats enough. I think If you live In San Juan County, you need to go to the commission and say, look we pay our taxes. Merv: We discussed this with them, and they have agreed to pay us or transfer the B Road Funding to us for those roads. But Pm waiting for documents. Whenever I see the Commissioners, I remind them that we're waiting for this. What weve asked Is, give that road to us, and give us the' foil amount of money from the State for that road. But youve .raised another point, do we accept that road In a very poor condition or do they put It In a reasonable condition with their own fondlnp and then turn It over. Dave: I think lt was a good decision, not because Pd like to see those lands developed, but the point Is, there Is state land thats being held within Federal lands. Over the years, they've failed to be able to get those Zephyr: gallery westlight so. main 750 259-794- 3 original images by norm Shrewsbury lands out so they can best serve the people of the state. That's the point they're trying to make. And the point Is well taken. Were being robbed of the revenue these state aectlons can produce and we need to get them out So I think they w?re forced to make a decision, and I think It was a good decision. Feme: I think It was a ploy for attention. You certainty wouldnt want a McDonalds In a National Park. Dave: But I think that If they don't get those lands out, they should do exactly what they say they're going to do. . Quwtton To Rlls Piivg Zephyr: Last time.
