Barker, operator and owner of Harts Cabins, attended the Highway 40 meeting which was held in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, on Friday, Nov. 16, at the Harbor Hotel., where they were overnight guests of the manager. The meeting was called for the purpose of reporting on contributions that had been made by the business men of the several towns and communities concerned, as well as progress made in preparation and placing of Highway 40 signs. The contributions have been very liberal, said Mr. Lyman, who is vice president of the association for Utah. The associations financial status is better than it has ever been, having $5,410 in the treasury to date. She was chosen queen in a popularity poll staged with three other candidates vying for the honor. Miss Halstead, a sophomore student, is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Halstead, of Duchesne. Other queen candidates were Dian McDonald, freshman class; Thora Wright, junior class; and Alice Jensen, senior class. In announcing the winner of the poll for queen, judges counted penny votes which were dropped in boxes stationed in the main hallway at the high school. Each ballot box was identified with the name and photo of the queen candidate, and the number of pennies dropped in the box were counted as a vote for each cent. Students, friends, teachers, parents were all allowed to participate in the balloting. Bert Young, Jr., president of the student body, crowned Miss Halstead Harvest Queen during intermission at the Harvest Ball held at the Duchesne High School Auditorium.
