Casey A. Pemberton of Clearfield, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif., and was promoted to his current rank. Pemberton successfully completed 12 weeks of training designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally. Pemberton and fellow recruits began their training at 5 a.m., by running three miles and performing calisthenics. In addition to the physical conditioning pro- gram, Pemberton spent numer- ous hours in classroom and field assignments which included learning first aid, uniform regula- tions, combat water survival, d marksmanship, combat and assorted weapons hand-to-han- training. He is a 1996 graduate of Clearfield High School. Pemberton is the son of Allen R. and Sherry C. Pemberton, also of Clearfield. Air Force Cadet Shane C. Jensen has been placed on the Deans List at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., for academic excellence with a 3.0 or better grade point average at the end of the semester. The academy is a four-ye- ar military institution that provides instruction, education, training and experience in academics, military training, aviation and airmanship programs, athletic conditioning, and spiritual and ethical development to all cadets. The cadets graduate with the knowledge, character and skills essential to meet the leadership challenges of the 21st century for future career officers in the U.S. Air Force. Jensen also has earned honors with placement on the Athletics 'List at the Academy. He was recognized by the director of athletics for excelling in a combination of intense aero- bics training, physical tests and physical education classes during the semester.
