Show Page 4 The Summerbird June 18, 1990 4 Utah Summer Games begin June 25 PAVILION DEDICATION, OPENING CEREMONIES KICK OFF WEEK The Utah Summer Games will enter its fifth annual presentation here June 25 as the largest amateur sports event in the state of Utah. The week kicks off Monday with competition and the 3 p.m. dedication of the Jay Dee and Alice Christopherson Harris Pavilion southerly adjacent to Thunderbird Stadium. The building, which will house several Summer Game events, is complete through the first of several phases. The gala opening ceremonies, including skydivers, circus acts and the first-evpublic appearance of Miss Utah 1990, SUSC student Jennifer Nakken, begins at 8 p.m. in the Stadium. As always, it will be capped off by the largest fireworks display in southern Utah and features an entire evening of entertainment. The Games are specifically designed to showcase Utahs dedicated and worthy amateur athletes. After thrilling regional competition in the sports of Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, Athletics (Track and Field), Swimming, Archery, Horseshoes, Trap Shooting, Ten K Run, and Tennis in the cities of Logan, Orem, Sandy City and Richfield earlier this month, the finals move to Cedar City June This year, the Games provide competition in Archery, Basketball, Bowling, Boxing, Cycling, Diving, Equestrian, Fencing, Gymnastics, Horseshoes, Judo, Karate, Marathon, er 25-3- The Utah Summer Games offer an opportunity for amateur athletes of all ages to compete and win Mountain Bike Cycling, Shooting, Soccer, Slowpitch Softball, Fastpitch Softball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Ten K Run, Tennis, Track and Field, Triathalon, Volleyball, Weightlifting, and Wrestling. Tickets for the weeks action may be purchased at the SUSC Centrum Box Office or the Cedar City area Chamber of Commerce offices at 286 N. Main. An all events family pass for up to six family members is $30 and affords attendance at all venues all week long, plus the gala Monday night opening ceremonies and the US West Achievement Recognition Dinner Saturday. An individual pass to the same events is $10. Daily venue passes are $2 and a ticket to the opening ceremonies is $4 for adults and $2 for children under 12. The US West dinner is $4 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Much of the success of the Games attributed to the generosity of its is sponsors, according to USG officials. Corporate sponsors provide the financial base for the Games without them we could not function for the benefit of Utah amateur athletes, said Summer Games Executive Director Rich Wilson.
