Show Emery County Progress Castle Dale, Utah Tuesday August 13, 2002 33 The Farm Bureau Talent Find was held on Aug. 1 under the big top at the Emery County Fair. The contestants competed in four age divisions. The beginner category was for children from 6 years of age. The winner was Chyanne Carter, second place-Aspe- n e Conder. In the junior division, Bloomer, third n the winner was Jessica Jensen, second ages In Luke. intermediate third the division, ages Allred, the winner was Candice Jensen, second place-Kist- y a Peacock. In the senior division, ages Bowden, third 1 the winner was Kaylee Edgehouse, second Monica Weihing. The first place winners in Peacock, all divisions except the beginner will move on to compete at the Farm Bureau Talent Find at the Utah State Fair on Sept. 14. 0-- place-Sidne- 7-1- 2, place-Mera- place-Shalay- 13-1- ne 7, place-Alyss- place-Bethan- y 8-3- 0, third-plac- e- Handcart Company Youth groups converge on Emery County to relive history Two youth roups from the Salt Lake area recently converged on Emery County to try their hand at pushingand pulling a handcart up and down East Mountain. sixty-nin- e people from the TaylorsvilleKearns Stake as well as the Alpine 4th Ward made the trek in two separate parties. It took the Alpine Ward three days to trael 16 miles. Lisa Caldwell from the Tajlorsville group said, We heard about doing this trek from some people in Salt Lake. Montell Seely from Castle Dale had made arrangements for them. We broke the group into nine families which have a Ma and Pa youth leuder, and a Grandpa and Grandma w hieh Taj lorsville group had plans to view the Castle Valley Pageant w hile in the area and the Alpine group stopped at the famous Emery County lamb fry for dinner before returning to the city. One-hundr- ed are the adult leaders. Each family has 12 kids." The youth and their leaders all dressed in pioneer attire to make their journey more realistic. One of the girls from the Alpine Ward said, The food was terrible on the trek, it's time to order up a pizza. Both groups ended their journey at the Desbee Dove mine site. The Junior Miss Peach Days The Peach Days Pageant was held on Aug. 8 at the Emery High Auditonum. Contestants competed in evening gown and talent. In the Miss Peach Days competition the queen was Ashlie Larsen, 1 st attendant, Allison Fox and 2nd attendant, Devin Wareham. the Junior Miss competition, the queen was Savannah Winn, 1st attendant, Kaitlin Reaves and 2nd attendant Charlotte Withers. In the Miss Peach Blossom division all the girls were crowned queens. In |
