Show Student Outlook Remains Optimistic Despite Increase In Draft Quota The total additional call will be nearly 340,000 men. For the apprehensive student with academic difficulties a number num-ber of avenues remain open if he wishes to avoid the draft. The surest way is to join the Peace Corps, automatically being deferred de-ferred until he is released. If the Peace Corp refuses one's services, one can always become a conscientious objector. As the war in Viet Nam expands, ex-pands, the outlook for college students remains comfortably optimistic op-timistic despite a tightening of draft controls. Many students fretting over the possibility of being inducted by Uncle Sam may take several precautions to insure remaining in school. FIRST, IT IS imperative that male students between the ages of 19 and 26 maintain a scholastic scholas-tic grade point of 2.0 or better. Secondly, male students should carry a load equivalent to 15 credit hours. Satisfaction of these two requisites gives the student a mandatory deferment; placing him in a 1-S category. If a student becomes scholas- tically delinquent or fails to maintain a 15-hour course he will be reclassified 1-A, which means your are lucky if you don't get drafted. THE BASIS of the draft enforcement en-forcement is the enlargement of our Armed Forces to approximately approxi-mately two million men. This build up has necessitated raising the draft call from around 10,000 a month to 36,000 in October. |
