Show I I I SPRING CITY I I By Special Correspondence ' The Pioneer Day celebration, under the direction, of the Canal Creek branch of the D. U. P., was well enjoyed by all, and was fittingly celebrated. A program in the ward chapel was the opening feature, with Captains Mrs. Dorcus Blain, Mrs. Ada Allred and Mrs. Emma Sor-ensen Sor-ensen in charge. The program was as follows: Community singing, "Come, Come Ye Saints," conducted by Bishop E. B. Terry. Invocation, Doyle Madsen.1 A Ladies chorus, "The Little Old Garden," by the Singing Mothers, conducted by Bishop Terry. Speech by "Utah of 1847," Mrs. Helena Bunnell. Her attendants were, Brigham Young and wife, represented by Leon Allred and Mrs. Grace B. Allred. Violin solo, Eugene Terry, accompanied by Miss Yvonne Schofield. Speech, "Utah of 1946," Miss Eula Lea Blain. Her attendants were "Miss Sanpete," Shirley Schofield and Miss "Spring City," Rochelle Sor-ensen. Sor-ensen. The Flower girls were, Annette Aiken, Barbara Clark and Carma Petersen. Chorus, Singing Mothers, "I Passed By Your Window," Rodney Rod-ney Bagnall of the Stake Presidency Presi-dency was the speaker of the Day. Vocal solo, "Loves Old Sweet Song," Mrs. Alice Strate. Musical number, Dvonne, Patsy and Robert Schofield. Vocal duet, "Thanks Be To God," Mrs. Vilate Hope, Miss Arlea Hope, accompanist, accom-panist, Miss Diant Hope. Benediction, Bene-diction, James. W. Blain. A children's dance was held early in the afternoon, with Manti Man-ti and Spring City playing a double header ball game. The first game played in Manti was in their favor 6 to 4. At home the local boys won 17 to 6. A picture show in the evening concluded the day's activities. Mr. and Mrs. Clive Barney of Los Angeles, California are visiting visit-ing relatives in this city. Mr. and Mrs. Austin Erickson of Los Cruses, New Mexico visited visit-ed Sunday in this city. Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Allred and family, Mr. and Mrs. Valeo Covert of Salt Lake City visited Wednesday in this city. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Delone Carlson are: Mr. and Mrs. Jack Havvkes, Miss Elverna Carlson of Salt Lake City and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Trathen of Los Angeles, California. Mr. Trathen is enroute to New York City. He is a buyer for the Men's and Youth's Department of a large firm in Los Angeles. Mrs. Boyd Allred entertained a group of children at her home Friday afternoon at a birthday party for her daughter, Kerry. The children enjoyed playing games and Mrs. Allred served them refreshments. Mi. and Mrs. Ross Allred formerly for-merly of this city, and lately of South Gate, California are spending spend-ing their vacation in their home I here. I Mr. and Mrs. Grover Blain of Clear Field, Utah are visiting ' relatives in this city, i Recent visitors at the home of I Mr. and Mrs. Angus Black were ' Mr. and Mrs. Max Thompson and ' family. Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum Sorensen have now received word their son, Pvt. Ted Sorensen, has now arrived at Weilburg, Germany. 1 He wrote of the beauty of the part of Germany he is now in. Enroute overseas they were in a terrific storm and extreme cold. They passed along the English coast and was also in France. I Mr. and Mrs. Royal Allred entertained en-tertained friends at a "Water- I melon Feed" during the evening I of July 24th at their home. The guests were: Mr. and Mrs. La-mont La-mont Jensen, Mr. andMrs.Claren Schofield, Mr. and Mrs. Reid H. Allred, Mr. and Mrs. Pratt Osborne, Os-borne, Mr. and Mrs. James F. Ellis', Mr. and Mrs. Vero Aiken, Mr. and Mrs. Virgus Osborne, Mr. and' Mrs. Nordell Allred, Mrs. Vera Downard and Mrs. Ethelyn Anderson. Pvt. Francis Schofield is now stationed at San Antonio, Texas, where he has been placed in the Air Corps. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Claren Schofield. Cpl. Billie Blain is home on a month's furlough visiting his mother; Mrs. Bertha Blain and other relatives. Recently he has been stationed at Camp Lewis, i Washington. Mr. and Mrs. Gardell Osborne visited Saturday with relatives in this city. They are from I Fairview. They left Monday ioi I Midvale and Salt Lake City to , I visit. They were accompaniea : there by Mrs. Ruth Osborne o; , this city. She will visit with her daughters, Mrs. Margaret Justesen and Miss Ethel Osborne at Midvale. Mr. and Mrs. William Burr and son of Salt Lake City visited over the week end at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs Vincent Major. Mrs. Nellie Blain entertainec friends and relatives at her home Thursday afternoon in observ ance of her birthday. The local Boy Scouts, undei the direction of their Scouts Mas ters, Joseph F. Hansen, Lowel Hansen and Vivian Larsesn, hav( returned home from a week's trij ; to the mountains. They enjoyec the trip very much, seeing manj beautiful scenic views in our mountains and canyons. The trip was made on horse back. The boys rode up Oak Creek, stopping stop-ping at "Mud Hole Springs," "Reeder Ridge," and camping in Black Canyon. They made trips to Joes Valley, and riding around each day in the mountains enjoying en-joying beautiful scenery. One day the boys stopped at South Tent mountain and looked down into Meadow Fork, which was a treat for them as some of the boys saw their first Elk. Each patrol planned and prepared their own meals. The evenings were spent in camp fire entertainment enter-tainment with programs, stunts and games. The boys attending the week's trip were: Robert Schofield, Blake Allred. Golden Dean Terry, Ter-ry, Ferrill McKinney, Bernell Schofield, Wallace Allred, Johnny John-ny Baxter, Gordon Blain, Don Allred, Charles Osborne, Wayne Pherson, Grant Watson, Glen Osborne, David Sorsensen, Rex Worthen and Franklin Jensen. . |
