Show CONFERENCE AT PARADISE. Editor Leader: A Quarterly Conference of the people of this place was held on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 28th and 29th. Although there were none of the Stake Authorities or other visitors present a great deal of good instruction was given by our local speakers and appreciated by the people. The attendance, at all the meetings was very large. Our new rock meeting house, recently erected at a cost of about four thousand dollars, was crowded in every part. The various quorums of the Priesthool, were all represented to be in good condition, the members thereof with very few exceptions, being full of faith, and willing to perform all the duties that they were called upon to perform. The Statistical reports showed 81 families, numbering 451 souls. The Female Relief Society reported 88 members. Donated to poor, $189.87; to new meeting house, $91.97; to St. George Temple, 6.00; to Salt Lake Temple, $15.00; to Logan Temple, $6.95?; and to Logan Factory $25.00; also amount on hand, $14.01 as shares on Co-op Store. $1,000? Cash and thirty two thousand dollars merchandise. The Y.M.M.I. Association reported 61 members, with an average attendance of fifty; had held forty-five meetings, eight conjoint meetings, and one district meeting, had sent out fourteen companions of missionaries and received eight companies; were establishing a library, and had ?? and cash in hand to the amount of forty dollars. The Y.L.M.I. Association reported that they were organized Aug. 19, 1878, with 81 members; 10 had removed and one had died; average attendance 33; had held 73? Meetings, 8 conjoint meetings, and one district meeting, were also trying to establish a library. On Sunday afternoon, the General Stake, and Local Authorities of the Church were presented and unamimously sustained. Taken altogether, we can truly say that our first conference has been a success, and the universal desire seems to be that we may be privileged to attend many more such gatherings. Samuel Oldham. |
