Show orts WEDNESDAY, JULY 2, 2008 • B l •Covering what matter's most * « • * • ma Track athletes Chad Vest STAFF WRITER Last weekend, former SF track athlete Mike Hughes returned to the Summer Games and accomplished exactly what he set out to do. At this time last year, he broke the 400 meter record for ages 30-34 and broke another one alongside his competitor. Hughes finished a tenth of a second behind his opponent but both times eclipsed the previous record. In this year's event, he trained harder to compete in the 200m and the 100m (a race he had never ran in school). Anyhow, he found sweet revenge as he outran his opponent in a 200m rematch with a time of 23.8 seconds to set another games record. In the 100m, Hughes again outran the same guy to capture the gold and yet another record with a speedy time of 11.60 seconds. *•.<• URK clj Gr % BANI HEN PR 5 or 31'. "He was there again this year in the 200 and 100," said a chuckling Hughes in regard to his sweet victory. Most athletes lose a step or two when they approach the age of thirty so it may leave some raising their brows with the question, ' How fast would he have been at 18?' This year in Spanish Fork, Namon Bills / Spanish Fork News BATTER UP: A lot of batters stayed up Friday, June 27 for the Friday Night Lights Tournament. Team Haveron, right, won the championship. Matt Marziale and Brady Dansie decided, "Who needs the sun?" On Friday, June 27 Spanish Fork Parks and Recreation hosted their first-ever Friday Night Lights Co-ed Softball Tournament at the Spanish Fork Sports Park.
