WEBER COLLEGE SIGNPOST VOL. 3 NO. 15 FEBRUARY 16, 1962 OGDEN, UTAII BOG Approves Assembly Policies A brace of policies governing presentation of assemblies was approved by the Board of Control this week as recommended by the college Assembly Committee. The committee, composed of faculty and students, drew up the recommendations in an effort to remove uncertainty about such things 'as the composition and scheduling of assembly programs. 6. The committee is to be organized to be student-controlled and operated with faculty members acting in advisory capacities with the approval of .the faculty. The Approved Regulations Follow: 1. Assemblies will be presented as often as deemed necessary by the committee. 2. Assemblies will consist of the following basic groups: a. Professional b. Educational c. Exchange d. Studentbody This plan can be altered according to availability of programs or necessity for additional assemblies 3. The committee is to be responsible for initiating and presenting assemblies. 4. . Classes are to be dismissed for 'assemblies only with the approval of the Preident of the College and studentbody officers. When classes are dismissed, all offices and the library are to close. ' Student Talent 5. The Assembly Committee is to be designated custodian of the talent oard index to which groups wishing to present assemblies may refer for talent. ATTENTION! Sophomore Class officers, Dennis Weir, Sherma Smith, Karen Waldron, or Jon O'Dell would appreciate any ideas you have. School Debaters efe Here Today Fifty-five high schools in three states have registered over 1300 students for the annual Weber College High School Forensic Tournament today and tomorrow. High Comp Dr. Leland H. Monson, Tournament director, said this is the largest number of schools to enroll in the history of the 26-year old contest. Registered to date are 1,303 debaters, orators, and extemporaneous speakers. Dinner A dinner for the 55 coaches will be held in the college Union Building today at noon. College officials will welcome the group and explain details of the program.The tournament has grown to what is believed to be the largest forensic event of its kind in the country. Teams have come as far away as Las Vegas, Nevada to compete. Concert Tour The Board of Control last Monday approved funds for the band to make a concert tour through northern Utah and southern Idaho. K. Earl Erickson, band director, said that the tour is held to induce more music students to come to Weber College next year. He said that the tour will be from March 26-29, and that the band will play at approximately 12 high schools. Peace Corp Test Tomorrow! A new round of Peace Corps Placement Tests will be given at 8:30 tomorrow, February 17, in room 406 of the Federal Building in Salt Lake Cfty. College graduates and people with special talents or skills 'are urged to apply for such places as : Africa, South America, British West Indies, Philippines, India, Pakistan. New Constitution Under Preparation All students who have any ideas or suggestions about the new 4-year constitution which is Hinder preparation, are invited to attend an open meeting on Feb. 24 at 8:00 a.m. in the Board of control room. Special mandates to be brought before the Senate at the beginning of next year will be discussed at this meeting. The discussion will be headed by Larry Bryant. Veann Bingham, studentbody vice president, said that the present two year constitution will not be adequate when Weber moves to its new position as a four year college. 50 Constitutions Over 50 constitutions from other universities have been considered. The new constitution has been discussed before a board of faculty members and students every Saturday morning for the past six weeks. The final draft of the constitution will be brought before the students of Weber College in a few weeks for a vote of ratification.
