petitions asking the council not mot to licence any dram or tippling shop and to prohibit EO so far as they had power the sale of spirituous liquors within the limits of the city were presented one had 1530 1550 and the other signature signatures of citizens attached they were handed over to the same committee as that to which the four petitions on am the same subject presented a week ago of cattle were examined before justice clinton today to day mr andrews was the first witness ile he was a resident of bear river valley and was a dealer in stock had nine head stolen from him between four miles milea from his house learned at laketown Lake town that the prisoners had passed through that place going southward and followed them up according to information here he received as far as ogden where he lost track of them and the cattle he placed laced himself in communication with sheriff sheriff brown the latter came down to salt lake witness It ness received a telegram from mr brown requesting him to come to the latter place and he came accordingly and found eight head bead of the cattle stolen from him and also found a yoke of oxen belonging to milligan and brooks which had been leftin lertin lert left in his charge by the latter the animals were in the tithing corral when he found them 13 by the defense mccabe and a man nam ed N williams visited his place last fall and left thirty five nive head of catte cattle for witness to ranche they afterwards came when he be warl was away and took the cattle leaving a written notice to the effect that they had bad done dona 0 the notice was signed by williams ile he kept the cattle abouo about six weeks and two animals were left for ranching them the witness gave a description of the cattle which he be alleged to have been stolen from him those cattle stolen from him were not a portion ot of those thirty head riven given into his hig charre charge charge sheriff brown from froin information received from mr andre andrews he visited this city mr andrews described mccabe and crawford and also the stock which he said had bad been stolen from froni him he be learned that the prisoners rl and the cattle were lu in city creek F kanyon canyon u yon you and that the latter had been offered for tor sale hampton and Ps and himself went up the kanyon found the accused and also the cattle the cattle were then driven
