Show ROAD BUILDING ON MANTI FOREST; EIK HUNTING NEW ' THE ELK HUNT Elk hunters on the Forest have learned a lot about the habits of ell: Many of the hunters went out with the idea that elk hunting was much the same as it would be to go out Into the fields- and shoot cattle. They .'ound, however, that bull elk are exuemely wary - much more so than deer. On the Manti Forest 'Tin' fine specimens were killed the fir I morning in Muddy Canyon and since that time four more animals have been taken while four others, one of them a cow, have been killed above Ferron and Castle Dale. Quite a number of bull elk were found In Manti Canyon and these animals were in exceptionally fine rendition., however, due to the depth of snow, about the only chance to follow them was on snowshoes so hat comparatively few of the Manti l ord have 'been taken! One bull elk wa3 killed east of Salina and three hunters from Salt Lake killed three cow elk near Gooseberry after an unfruitful search of three or four days for bull elk. The hunters from Castle Dale reported, seeing large numbers of bull elk and found it e I .emely difficult to get next o them. It is reported that the elk killed kill-ed by Wilford Winteh east of Salina .veighed 600 lbs. with the entrail? drawn. It is also reported that an elk .veighing 700 lbs. with entrails drawn had been killed in the Muddy canyon. Bridge Building Ranger Anderson has a crew of men workir on the abutments for a bridge over Seely Creek at the head of Straight Canyon. If favorabU weather continues a few days longer the bridge will be ready for the stringers and covering which will bo put on sometime next spring. Road Improvements Progressing The i reconstruction work on the ' I't i: I !n jton canyon Road has been completed, however, that section of Ihfc road lying between the Forest bounJry and Huntington ig in a deplorable condition and Ithe State County, or the local citizens should , .see to it that part of the road is put ir. Bhape before Ithe canyon road is Wpen to travel next spring. Ranrjer Williams has a crew of men completing the repair of the Nar:ows Road as well as majcing some charges in the location of the I read. He also has a road crew repar-. repar-. ing the Hole Road in Muddy canyon. The Rochester people working on 'the ' Hole Road are cooperating on a 5 0-50 0-50 'bas s. On the Ferron canyon road the county, the people of Ferron, and the Foiost Service are cooperating on a 33 and 1-3 basis, $600.00 being expanded ex-panded on that projedt.
