Yet for most people, finding the time to exercise during the week isn't easy. But according to the American Heart Association, everyday activities such as walking can help anyone stay physically fit. "Most people drive or ride the bus to work, use elevators to get to their offices and then sit at home during their free time rather than exercising," said Dr. Fred Anderson, president of the American Heart Association, Utah Affiliate. Abnormal heart action; irregular pulse, rapid or fluttering heart rate, sudden burst of heartbeats or sudden decrease of pulse rate during exercise. 2. Heavy pumping or strongly felt palpitations in the throat or chest beyond normal exercise feeling. 3. Dull pain, ache or heavy pressure in the middle of the chest before, during or after exercise. 4. Abnormal shortness of breath associated with chest pain. 5. Sudden pain or numbness in any part of the body, especially in the left arm. 6. Pain or heartburn in region of the upper abdomen. 7. Extreme dizziness, sudden loss of coordination, cold sweat or loss of consciousness. 8. Temporary loss of speech or vision. 5, ray lh)(oi&i' Anderson suggests that people take their walking shoes with them to work and take a brisk walk at lunch time. Also, use the stairs instead of the elevator. "You'll be surprised how much better you feel," he said. According to the American Heart Association, an everyday exercise, such as walking, done briskly for 20 to 30 minutes at least three times a week, can condition your heart and lungs. Although lack of exercise has not been clearly established as a risk factor for heart disease, it can lead to excess weight, which is a risk factor. "Exercise gives you more energy, helps you cope with stress, makes you feel better about yourself, helps you look better and maintains muscle tone," Anderson said.
