Show Rounding the Bases Have a aheart aheart aheart heart J Jeren eren W. W Canning Managing Editor On Wednesday afternoon I was watching some when the breaking news banner ran across the screen The breaking news announced that Cory Cozy Lidle of the New York Yankees had been killed in a plane accident I have never considered myself a Yankees fan But when I heard that a baseball player had been killed I felt for the Yankees More than that I felt for baseball Lidle was one of the best young pitchers in baseball but his life and career carcer was cut short He left a wife and andson andson andson son who he was flying to meet The biggest thing that made me mad about this r whole situation was when the thc Yankees organization came out and said Lidle might have been been in in violation of the professional baseball contract by flying the airplane If the find that Lidle was in violation of his contract then his family will not receive any monetary help from the team This is just the latest in the Yankees' Yankees vendetta against their players During the off off- season of 04 the Yankees terminated the contract of Aaron Boone simply because he had torn tom his ACL in a up pick-up basketball game The Yankees said that his contract stated that he was not allowed to play basketball Just like TO the Yankees need to come of their high horse Yeah the guy may have made a bad decision to learn to fly a plane but does that mean that his family shouldn't have help I for one was truly touched when I saw the fans of Oakland pay tribute to Lidle their former pitcher It was an excellent decision on the part of Major League Baseball to hold a moment of silence for Lidle It is sad that Lidle died and it is great that baseball fans felt that a tribute was needed But his family deserves the money that was guaranteed by his contract If the Yankees organization wont won't pay then himself should sign the check to Mrs Lidle He could definitely afford it |
