Show KNOWS THE HANDWRITING Boston Director of the U S Speaks Out in Meeting An official of the United States Mining Mi-ning company in a statement to the News Bureau of Boston says I cant Imagine the reason for the apparent animus which Is I being displayed In certain cer-tain quarters In Boston against the United States Mining company I understand that the Salt Lake City correspondent of a Boston publication which has been bearIng the stock Is a youth named Wells whose father is interested with Col Wall In litigation against the United States company You can state officially that the net earnings of the United States company from January 1st tto April 30th have aggregated In excess of 100000 per month In the face of the mechanical difficulties which have prevented the economical and full operation of our smelter If we have been able to do this in the face of the alleged heavy losses inline in-line dust what can we do when the smelter is running smoothly and full force and we have overcome tho flue dust trouble We have maintained from the first that our smelter is a metallurgical success suc-cess but that there have been mechanical mechani-cal difficulties which will In time be overcome We have suffered severely from inefficient labor We believe that a feed attachment for our smelter is perfectly feasible Such an attachment Is a great labor saver and it I Is in successful operation In Butte Ducktown and other points but It requires very intelligent labor to handle it We have decided to resort to hand labor however until the labor situation improves the same as the other Salt Lake smelters When we erected our smelter we ordered the best machinery obtainable from the Allis Chalmera company yet notwithstanding notwithstand-ing this the machinery has not worked satisfactorily and the chief engineer of the AlllsChalmcrs company Is now at time plant endeavoring to overcome the difficulties Manager George K Fischer of the United States Mining companys smelter wires the Boston office this morning that the smelter has resumed operations with three furnaces In commission com-mission The smelter was shut down but three days although Manager Fischer estimated esti-mated It would require four days to make the needed repairs |
