Ste #203 St. George, UT 84790 GEORGE — Little Valleyresident Rick “Big Rick” Whittington, won his sixth gold medal for the Huntsman World Senior Games (three singles gold and three doubles gold) recently. Aside from his gold medal wins, he also has a:silver and a bronze in doubles. “IT only played doubles this year since I was a little busier than usual? said Whittington. “I had an amazing partner this year, Keith Tolbert. This was our. first year playing together and he was excellent! I played two other years with Richard Wigley, a St. George resident and another year with Brad Hammel (Salt Lake) once. ve been fortunate'to have so many wonderful partners,’ On what keeps him enjoying and winning this event year after year, Whittington said, “The competition is great to keep me motivated. This helps me channel my competitive drive in athletics, gives me something to keep in shape for, and allows me to play the sport that I love on an even playing field? Whittington started with the Senior Games in 2004. “Our win this year qualifies Keith and me to play together in the National United States Tennis Association (USTA) tournament which brings winning competitors from all the senior games all over the U.S. to compete against each other. So, this means Keith and I will be heading to San Francisco in August, 2009, to compete. I am really looking forward to this’ Of his favorite part of the entire Senior games, Whittington said, “I love the relationships that I form, the staffing of the tournament, and the location. The city really steps up to make this a wonderful event for all of us who are competing in the Huntsman Games: The Huntsman World Senior Games are the largest senior competitive event in the world. Entry is open to all who meet the age requirements, 50 years old or better. |
