Show opening of Tennes sees exposition THE UNION on june ast 1st next shall we peace or with england I 1 NASHVILLE term feb 7 special the stockholders of the proposed tennessee centennial exposition are m secret session here today for the purpose of taking final action upon the report of the executive committee and the board of director recommending thit the formal opening of the exposition be postponed until may ast 1st of next year until within tha few days has been considerable opposition to this course on the part of heavy stockholders but mont of thebe have it is thought ben won over to the views of the directors and will oner no strong objection to the adoption of the report the postponement is based upon the belief of the blaid that in view of the disturbed conditions between the great powers of the world which male it difficult to raise additional money nt this tune the excited condition of alie people growing out of the elections this year and the failure of many of the county courts to make appropriations an exposition this year could not be made a success it is recommended however that on june ast 1st of alie present year being the one hundredth anniversary of the admission of tennessee Ten nesbee into the federal union shall be a formal inauguration of the centennial exposition with appropriate prop ceremonies but that the doors of the exposition shall not be open antl the first of may of next ear meanwhile the six buildings boft under contract will be completed under alie supervision of the director of works and director general other buildings to be put up under contract from tune to time AS alie condition of the treasury and the judgment of the board m ay iy dictate these recommendations ions are certain to be adopted by an overwhelming majority |
