Show some facts about the re county count y court house A lot of statements have been made recently concerning the present county court house at paro wan many of them with deliberate intent to deceive and mislead voters in the coming election that times readers may not be among the deceived ones we give herewith a tew few pertinent facts the court house was wag commenced sometime in the seventies and as has be stated was built largely by donation completed and used for quite a number ot of years the walls were without a crack of any sort in them when the county decided along in the nineties to brick veneer it or to put a wall ot of brick around the original walls this wall investigation reveals is in perfect condition at present in 1923 when myron D higbee george berry williams and hugh L adams were commissioners they decided that tha t more ro room om was necessary to properly house the countes coun tys growing business and accordingly adder added live five rooms in front two big ones on the ground floor one big one and two small ones on the second floor they also added two vaults for the recorders records and remodeled the original building by putting on a new root roof installing a heating plant modern plumbing adding toilets in the rear putting in new floors a new judges bench and other needed furniture and redecorating the interior ot of the enlarged building this was done at a cost ot of between fifteen and seventeen seT Wr enteen thousand dollars the exact figures are not available and was intended to adequately house tho the countes Coun tys government tor for many years to come since its completion six years ago the expense of upkeep has been neg to illustrate how small lias has been this upkeep the budget appropriation atlon for upkeep of court house and jail with fuel lights water power and care of county prisoners has been around a year for the past two years and that small amount has not been expended t it has ample room to adequately house ahe ci county bunty government ac present and probably for ten years to come that some of the officers are renting elsewhere is because their homes are in cedar and they prefer of course to maintain their offices there not because of lack ol of room oom in the court house were it the ramshackle building it t has been painted lately it certainly must reflect against the commissioners ners who made the expenditures referred ret erred to in 1924 As a matter of 0 tact fact it if Is substantial and adequate lor for our requirements that the countes coun tys dignity is not buffering ering through its continued use Is emphasized by the statement of the late judge burton that there lb Is only one better court house irk in the district which comprises com prizes the counties of juab millard beaver iron and washington the same statement has recently been made by ono one who Is equally familiar with conditions incidentally its abandonment as a court house would probably mean a total loss to the county Paro carowan parowan wati cites public buildings are all we can maintain and its conversion to private use would hardly be practicable |
