Show Joseph E Johnson Dead It Was with much surpise and great pain that news of the death of Joseph E Johnson was received in this city on Monday The sad event was learned of by telegraph having taken place at 7 oclock on Sunday morning at Phoenix Arizona Ari-zona Brights disease of the kid neys being the decease wfcicn resulted fatally Very few persons in the Territoryor rather few of the older residents but knew Joseph E Johnson The deceased came to the Territory in the early davs and was constitutionally constitution-ally a pioneer and he died working in the pioneel lifja He was a man of restless temperament andindom itable win and energy There are few things in life to which he had j not at times turned his attention and in all unceasing labor as the chiet characteristic He has engaged en-gaged in a number of newspaper ventures in Utah as else here and was always one of the best briefest and newsiest contributors contribu-tors to the columns ofjthe HERALD He had a remarkably clear idea of I what constituted news and that is a I rare quality even among men in the I profession Perhaps he was more passionately fond of the study and care or flowers than anything else and in this he always had an eye to business He was a man of intelligence strictly upright and as honest as the day is long He has been trusted with important offices and inyariablyfilled them with honor with intelligence and with such scrupulous care as to win the confidence con-fidence of all Laterlvhe went as a pioneer into Arizona and was engaged en-gaged in building up settlements there when he died Since his departure de-parture from StGeorge frequent interesting in-teresting communications regarding the new country have appeared in the HERALD from his pen His death js an irretrevable loss to any community for it is rare indeed where one sees a man so active so various tastes and inclinations so industrious so hardy so intolligent and so honest Many who knew himand to know him was to hold him in esteemwill mourn his sudden sud-den and unexpected demise Facts as to his age and other data are not at hand at present but they add nothing to the worth of a good man The HERALD extends its heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved relatives and mourns the loss of a friend and one of natures noblemen |
