L ittle Sahara fee increase The manager of the Fillmore Field Office has approved a fee increase at the Little Sahara . Recreation Area starting January 1, 2003, to help defer operating and maintenance costs. The Day Use Fee will increase in-crease from $6 per vehicle to $8 per vehicle. This includes use of the area for one day and camping for one night. The Annual Pass will increase from $55 per vehicle to $75 per vehicle. If a person owns two vehicles and wishes to purchase a second Annual Pass for the second sec-ond vehicle, it may by purchased for $50. These annual passes CANNOT BE TRANSFERRED from one vehicle to another. Passes are good from January 1, 2003, until December 31. 2003. REALTY, INC. 489-5298 On October 19, Springville High's Chess Team participated in the 11th annual Ogden Scholastic Scho-lastic Open Chess Tournament. Springville showed its chess muscle by taking first place with 18.5 wins against Provo, last year's 4-A State Chess Champions, Champi-ons, who had 14.5 wins. Players of distinction were Steve Adams and Ryan Amott who tied for first individually, each with five wins and no losses. Robby Carnesecca Car-nesecca won four and got a draw,-which draw,-which put him in third place and Josh Jackman took fourth with four wins. The team looks forward for-ward to a very successful year. The D'Velles are heading to Southern California November 1 1 where they will be attending a dance workshop at UCLA. The girls will be instructed in the latest techniques in dance and drill. While in California, the drill team will have the opportunity opportu-nity to attend the Broadway musical "The Lion King." Congratulations to the Spring-' ville High Marching Band and Color Guard. They took second place at the Grape Bowl Marching March-ing Band Competition in California Califor-nia last week. The Color Guard missed first place by only one point. After the competition, the band members presented Mr. Tobier with a quilt made from the old band uniforms. The PTA has arranged for "parent volunteers to help in the library for two hours each day. Those volunteers are: Lynette Sumsion, Shauna Framption, JoAnn Munk, Wendy Fullmer, Debbie Gordon, LeAnn Averett, Ann Bartholomew, Jane Allis-Pike, Allis-Pike, Brenda Averett, Buffy Beach and DeAnn Conover. These ladies help at the circulation, circula-tion, desk and have taken on other projects to help the library. They are doing a super job and are greatly appreciated. On October 23, Mr. Hylton's physics students participated in the annual Mouse Trap Car Race. Students built cars of their own design powered only by s single mousetrap. The object of the contest was to see which car traveled the farthest. There were many good entries but four students stu-dents broke Springville High School's record, of 42 meters. This long-standing record was beaten by Cody Francis and Nathan Mulder's car which traveled trav-eled 43.5 meters. Nathan and Cody's record was then shattered by a car built by Cory Peay and Michael Oberbrockling. Their car set a new SHS record of 52.3 meters. Congratulations to all students who participated in the contest.
